(10,063 posts)They should ask this question: Have you ever noticed that Republicans label anything that benefits average people as socialism or communism while anything that benefits the ultra wealthy is the free market? Social Security was labeled as socialism, but we still have capitalism. We just want capitalism to work for average people instead of just the wealthy.
Showing a chart of how the wealth of the country has been transferred to the top 1% over the past several decades makes it clear how the lower 90% has lost out.

(11,103 posts)and not by just Republicans. Now that the old center has moved to the right, a far left label can be used on almost any policy position that favors a shake-up of established ways of doing things.
Im with Pete Buttigieg on this....might as well do the right thing.

(7,277 posts)White working class voters who do not want their taxes paying for someone else's welfare = people of color, Reagan's famous welfare queens. Do Reagan Democrats favor de-regulation, tax breaks for the wealthy, restrictions on abortion - not so much - but pushing back on the N's ... you betcha. Make America White Again.

(430 posts)These are products of politicians in questionably Red areas afraid to make too much noise because the fools they represent are still convinced Conservatives look out for them more so than Democrats.
They also receive money from local corporations who know they have no choice but to vote the way they're told to keep their office.
As far as the BS about the "Far Left" that's as much a crock as anything. The Right has moved so far right that they are ultra radical compared to the old Republican Center.
i"m sick and tired of the media in particular labeling progressive ideas as "Far Left." Sadly, many Democrats have bought into that BS and think that we need to move "slowly" because we'll be seen as too radical by the ignorant, apathetic masses, which is a laugh itself because NO ONE (in the media) is calling the ultra Right "Too Far Right." So the dumbed down public just hears the crap from the media...and believes it.
These "middle-of-the-road" Democrats have been holding back progress since St. Ronnie and too many Democrats and the generally ignorant public sheep have bought into it hook, line and sinker.
It's time to educate the masses but the current Democratic Leadership seems unwilling to change the status quo. They feel making waves could hurt their precious positions so let's go totally toward the middle and then in maybe another 40 years we can start to discuss better healthcare, better immigration, better tax laws and things in general that might just have been done to make America a more progressive place years ago. Maybe it's time for the Democrats to spend some money on Political Education. Of course, many will just want to debate the best way to do that and we'll take another 40 years to decide the obvious.
I heard once that FDR, who had polio, said of Republicans...they are like a person with two good feet, afraid to take one step forward. Seems as though a lot of the Old Guard Democrats fit that category. Their position is more important to them than making things better for all.
This why we need "the Squad" and more like them. We need to better inform the public how things could be a lot better if they only would hear and understand.
Sadly, there are many here who are "comfortable" in their lifestyle and are just as bad as the right in that they don't want any change because it might affect THEM, heaven forbid!
I guess seeing the "Blue Wave" isn't enough evidence to show some that Americans want to move forward faster than we've been. If that's called the "Far Left" then so be it.
