Kamala Harris Grabs Lead In California

July 17, 2019 at 8:04 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

A new Quinnipiac poll in California finds Kamala Harris leading the Democratic presidential field with 23%, followed by Joe Biden at 21%, Bernie Sanders at 18% and Elizabeth Warren at 16%.

Trailing far behind are Pete Buttigieg at 3% and Andrew Yang at 2%. There are four Democratic contenders with 1% and 15 candidates scoring less than 1%.

Also interesting: 45% say that Biden has the best chance of beating President Trump, with 12% for Sanders, 11% for Harris and 8% for Warren.

They are very nice and polite and sound like they haven't been doing this too long. But boy are they persistent. Yes, interesting that Biden's chances are still at 45% to Harris's 11%

I expect exciting changes daily . . .

In an April 10 survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University Poll, two weeks before he announced his presidential bid, Biden had 26 percent of California Democrats, with 18 percent for Sanders, 17 percent for Harris and 7 percent for Warren.

fortunes for garnering delegates early is greatly improved. She'll also do well in the important South Carolina primary which is much more indicative of the Party's base then the demographics of first two primaries in mostly white Iowa and New Hampshire.

It's come to come down to her, Biden and Warren. Sanders' too but prospects seems to have stopped progressing since this primary is not a binary one between him and Hillary. There are multiple candidates siphoning off voters who before only had two choices.

I feel she's got to win CA or she will be in trouble. I don't think she will win Iowa, NH, SC or Nevada. So she has to pick up the pace on Super Tuesday and what better than to win the pot of gold that is CA.

While she may not be my 1st choice, I like what she has to contribute to the Presidential primary process. It's been too long since a Californian has been on the national stage and I'm cheering my Senator on.

Hope Harris can keep the momentum going.

Boxer chewed her out after the debate; Feinstein endorsed Joe as I recall; Garcetti has said several times he won't endorse before the convention; Newsom endorsed her in February it turns out. On the other hand it's still early and she's picking up speed so . . .

Fewer than half of the people polled who said Harris was their preference in the primary thought she was most electable.

And she isn't doing nearly as well in national polls and polls of other states.
