WASHINGTONJoe Biden not-so-coyly teased a presidential bid on Tuesday, basking in Run, Joe, run chants from a friendly firefighters union, telling them he may need their support soon and taking some direct swipes at President Trump.
I appreciate the energy you showed me when I got up here. Save it a little longer, I may need it in a few weeks, the former vice president told the annual conference of the International Association of Fire Fighters to big cheers.
Biden took multiple shots at Trump, attacking the president for abandoning the middle class and sowing division and hate. He also took a shot at Trumps recently unveiled budget, which included planned cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, following Republicans massive tax cut package that has dramatically expanded national deficit spending.
Now theyve got to go make somebody pay for it. Something that gave millionaires and billionaires excessive tax breaks. And who do they ask to pay for it? Middle class families like you, he said. Trading Medicare and Medicaid for tax breaks? Hows that going to help most of the people in this room?
Biden slammed Trump for fueling division and undercutting American ideals.
In America, everybody gets a shot. Thats what the next president of the United States needs to understand, and thats what I dont think this current president understands at all, he said to applause. Unless you think Im kidding, try to define an America based on race. Try to define an America based on religion, on ethnicity.

(6,377 posts)When you have those in place, there's no reason to declare as early as everybody else and open yourself up to attacks. He's leading in every poll, sometimes by wide margins.
Declaring in January or February is something you do if you know you need to get your fundraising and name recognition up and going. Biden already has those.

(4,494 posts)We're 10 months to the first primaries, so there's no real hurry, and by waiting until the others have declared, he lets them get their news cycles over and done with.

Most connect Joe to the quiet years and love Obama. You can bet Obama wil be organizing his foot soldiers.
I had not heard Joe speak lately. That speech to the Fire Fighters was a zinger.
Not sure who I want yet, but I do know who I do not want.

(22,166 posts)nominee for the president of the US, Mr. Biden should run. He's got experience, far more than pence does in his whole body than Biden has in his pinky finger. I still remember the shellacking that Paul Ryan got in the debate with Biden.
