How Amy Klobuchar would improve care for seniors

Sen. Amy Klobuchar on Friday released a multifaceted plan to improve care for seniors — including lowering prescription drug costs, strengthening retirement funds and Social Security benefits, and investing in long-term treatments.

Building on her leadership in the Senate, according to a statement outlining the plan, Klobuchar would “continue to stand up for our seniors and the 10,000 Americans who turn 65 each day.”

The first step helps those with chronic conditions, like Alzheimer’s disease. Klobuchar’s plan would expand resources for caregivers, letting patients stay in their homes longer. It would expand Medicare-covered services for Alzheimer’s, fund greater research and changes to public health infrastructure, and improve mental health care through depression treatment and suicide prevention efforts.

To secure retirement opportunities, Klobuchar would lift the Social Security payroll cap, create a portable personal savings account requiring a minimum employer contribution and push to let retirees keep their earned pensions.

You apparently are not informed about her stand on issues and this should give you information about what Amy works toward.

What if my parents were stupid people, too? Might I be genetically predisposed to stupidity? Or, if the genetic factors influencing intelligence are minimal at best, socialized into it? Saying a person is stupid by choice, seems to me, every bit as dodgy as saying a person is poor by choice. Nobody wants to be poor, and nobody wants to be stupid.

We're all just victims of circumstance, see? Intelligence just wasn't in the cards for me. But a big pile of student debt was.

As to avoid the inevitable post-matriculation "pity party"? Or are you one of those fantastically rich people so undeserving of subsidized tuition that everyone in the middle should get screwed just to make sure they don't?

Seniors already have Medicare. It can be made better, yes. But they have it.

People from their late 40s to Medicare age have the highest insurance premiums on the ACA exchange. At least we have the ability to have insurance because of the ACA, though. For now.

Do politicians not invest in the younger generations because they are unreliable participants, or are the younger generations unreliable participants because politicians do not invest in them?

All I can say for certain is that if a politician promised 23-year-old me medical insurance and tuition relief, I probably would have knocked over a liquor store or two just to contribute to their campaign.

much like Warren's ideas regarding childcare/early childhood education.

These are issues that have a tremendous impact on everyday Americans (especially women).
