Sen. Kamala Harris is taking fresh aim at fellow 2020 hopeful Vice President Joe Biden over his remarks on busing in the first Democratic debate, calling his efforts to explain himself "revisionist history."
"I'm not going to let us engage on a debate stage for who's going to be the next president of the United States -- Im not going to allow us to engage in revisionist history, Harris said in a taping of the popular New York-based syndicated radio program "The Breakfast Club," which aired Friday morning.
"I can't stand on that stage and allow certain conversations to be taking place," Harris told the radio hosts.
When asked by host Charlamagne tha God if she's for or against busing, Harris said she was for the federally mandated policy at the time.
Harris and Biden have been trading barbs for two weeks after the heated exchange at the debate. Their dispute has continued to be personal, with Harris making up T-shirts using a photo of her as a young girl in California who was bused and Biden saying he was surprised considering Harris knew his deceased son Beau when both served as state attorneys general.

She's so damned smart, but this just makes me cringe...

(8,923 posts)But that was the second strike against her for me as far as the primary goes. Her comments on ending employer based insurance was the first strike.
But if she somehow wins the nomination, which I don't think she will, I will work as hard for her as anyone we nominate.

(1,810 posts)While I hope to be voting for Warren, Biden is someone I have great respect for and he would get my available time and money if he wins the primary. I have donated to him already. Not as much as I've donated to Warren but I wanted to be a part of Bidens initial haul. He is currently at the top of my list with Warren.

more...making a mistake. Everyone knows it was a set up now complete with touching photos ready to go and t-shirts on sale at the debates...give it up Sen. Harris. No modern Democrat who has anything to offer would choose to run on busing.

(15,512 posts)If she'd made her great experience being bused in an innovative Berkeley integration program part of her stump speech, I'd still be behind her. But she had to twist it into something it wasn't so she could bash Biden with it and now she's accusing Joe of revisionism.
Really sad.

(8,144 posts)tried to paint Biden as a segregationist, and now still at it. Sounds like she has nothing to offer herself that would drive more AA votes her way, so she continues to try to discredit Joes excellent civil rights record.

(37,648 posts)When it turned out she was never "forced" bused. She merely chose to ride the bus to a school that was already integrated. LOL. And Biden's policies had nothing to do with it.
I rode the bus to elementary school. Does that mean I was forced bused? I rode the bus because it was too far to walk, and the bus stopped nearby.

question everything
(47,485 posts)Asked if she favored federally mandated busing, she replied that busing should be considered by a school district. No apologies for any confusion.
In the debate, she transformed herself from a cool authority that she projected during the Judiciary hearings to being hurt and haunted by childhood racism which, she clearly implied, Biden had a hand.

(16,954 posts)by this stunt. She has overplayed her hand, given Trumpland a pass on actual racism by insinuating these attacks of this nature on Biden, or any other Democrat for that matter. Its a shame, but a lot of us saw the bigger picture right away.

(10,829 posts)And after the Harris attack, I suspect Joe Biden will be prepared with a pushback.
As for the original attack working? It's clearly not working enough because Warren has overtaken Harris is most polls. Which makes sense (in some regard) that Harris is now attempting to re-stir the same pot. Will it work?
We shall see.
