Families Of Deported Immigrants Storm Biden Headquarters To Demand Apology

UPDATE: 3:15 p.m. — After an hour and a half of protesting in the building’s lobby using megaphones and signs, Philadelphia police arrested six activists from the group. When police arrived, undocumented families left the building to avoid being arrested and potentially sent into ICE custody. The protest continues in front of the building, but so far, no one from Biden’s campaign has responded to the group.

PREVIOUSLY: A group of families whose loved ones were among the roughly 3 million people deported under the Obama administration will hold a sit-in at Joe Biden’s campaign headquarters in Philadelphia on Wednesday, saying they’ll refuse to leave until they receive an apology from the former vice president.

The group of roughly 40 families and activists, organized by New Jersey-based immigrant rights group Movimiento Cosecha, plan to ask Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign to commit to a progressive immigration platform and acknowledge the pain caused by deportations under President Barack Obama.

Obama set a record for deportations, although he narrowed his focus later in his presidency to removing convicted criminals, recent border-crossers and people previously removed from the country. (A change in how removals were counted also accounts for some of the record.)

Comprehensive Immigration Reform plan would provide a pathway to citizenship under DACA and for
many undocumented workers in the U.S. Biden will certainly support a sane, responsible, reforming
immigration policy and reinstate the right to legally seek asylum under criteria Trump has abolished.

This is very wrong-headed on the part of those families. They act as if one has a right be illegally in the U.S.

And Obama/Biden was a lot kinder! Obama did DACA, which, it should remembered, the Dotard is trying to end.

This sounds like some sort of black op, because if immigrants have a problem, it should be with the Dotard Administration.

Your reply suggests it would be wise to drop the curtain. I agree.

The putin, red team wants to make the 2020 election about fear of immigrants. They promised them that manufacturing jobs would be there, someday, maybe, if they only voted for a Republican. Rumpublican leaders know the whirlwind is coming to take them away. (That includes those so-called Christians who await the rapture. Their saviour walks amoung them.

I believe in "The Rule of Law". Nowhere does it say there is a superior race, and that race is the "White Male" (females don't count or get a 1/2 vote....snark)

Democratic candidates to agree to them, they'd help re-elect Trump.

A Twitter thread on why they're protesting Biden instead of Trump starts here:

This is what they are demanding all 2020 candidates commit to:

1. An end to all detention & deportations on day 1
2. Immediate legalization for all undocumented immigrants
3. Family reunification for all

Since the thread makes clear they're protesting immigration policies back through the Bush administration, they apparently are insisting that candidates commit to bringing back to the US all illegal immigrants who were deported as far back as 2001.

As long as the GOP controls one branch of government, we will not have immigration reform...and they can protest all they want...it won't change. We are going to be stuck in this untenable position until we do something to stop conditions that force people to come here. That includes screwing Latin American countries by reneging on trade agreements by trump and some Democratic candidates, and correcting problems we are largely responsible for.
