I'll take Obama's judgment about my character and about my ability to do the job over anyone else's.

I hope that Biden forcefully utters this to anyone who dares to impugn his character or ablity - be it man or woman!!!

***************************************************************************************************

Snip...

Biden touted his record as President Barack Obama’s No. 2 for eight years, adding that if he could pass the Obama campaign’s vetting process in 2008, he was fit for the job of president now.

"I’ll take Obama's judgment about my character and about my ability to do the job over anyone else’s."

I support him but totally realize he is not perfect. Far from it. I’m a big fan of Harris and Mayor Pete as well. And Warren. Of course, any of our candidates are great compared to the current situation.

I like the back and forth about our candidates. But this being the internet it too often dissolved into insults. Which I am admittedly guilty of. I crossed the line recently. Strong feelings and bourbon don’t mix!

to the JFK-LBJ ticket, and that was very different. Only a handful of states held primaries in 1960, and party bosses controlled outcomes from smoke-filled rooms in those days.

Barack Obama had complete freedom to make his own pick. I saw a play this last week about the last campaign of RFK, and the writer/actor used historical documents to put together a very moving show. At one point, he mentioned that RFK was the one sent to LBJ to "offer" him the VP slot by the party bosses, and when Johnson unexpectedly accepted, they sent Bobby again to talk him out of it.

I don't believe any of the other top tier of current candidates was either in public office or expressed any interest in running for president or vice president 11 years ago.

Given that, any argument that Obama's selection of Biden as his running mate in 2008 means that, ipso facto, Biden is the best choice in this current field to be president in 2021 is spurious.

No one said ‘shut up’. The closest is someone saying others need to re-evaluate.

What I read that they trust President Obama’s decision. Honorable people can disagree, and we all often do. I happen to agree but respect those that don’t.

But telling someone to shut, in my opinion, would be beyond the pale.

to prove to voters why (besides his having been Obama’s vice president) he should be the next president - including talking about and explaining where necessary his pre-2009 record?

Because whether you think my “shut up” comment was accurate or hyperbole, that’s what some people here are communicating with their “Obama picked him and that’s good enough for me and if you don’t agree you're saying Obama picked a racist” responses to suggestions that Biden’s record should be scrutinized.

It’s how we pick our candidates.

I was just commenting on what I read. No one said shut up if you disagree. Unless I missed something and saying that would be over the line. What I read was Obama picking him was enough for them. Which I happen to disagree with. That’s not, in my opinion, enough reason to support a candidate.

Honorable people can and do disagree.

Things will be tense enough here without added hyperbole.

If Biden's Iraq War vote comes up during the primaries, will anyone say with a straight face that Biden can't be questioned about it because he was Obama's vice president?

They think for themselves, will consider all of the candidates, proposed plans, and records - including Biden’s both pre and post 2009, and decide for themselves who they think should be president.

I think Biden is too smart to rely on the derivative “Obama picked him so I’ll pick him, too” vote to sweep him to the White House, no matter what some of his supporters here think.
