Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI'll take Obama's judgment about my character and about my ability to do the job over anyone else's.
I hope that Biden forcefully utters this to anyone who dares to impugn his character or ablity - be it man or woman!!!

Snip...
Biden touted his record as President Barack Obamas No. 2 for eight years, adding that if he could pass the Obama campaigns vetting process in 2008, he was fit for the job of president now.
"Ill take Obama's judgment about my character and about my ability to do the job over anyone elses."

(28,820 posts)are just looking to dump on Joe for any reason.
Joe remains the most qualified both nationally and globally.
No other candidate has nearly enough global diplomatic experience.
My personal opinion is the same goes for nationally.

(11,949 posts)I support him but totally realize he is not perfect. Far from it. Im a big fan of Harris and Mayor Pete as well. And Warren. Of course, any of our candidates are great compared to the current situation.
I like the back and forth about our candidates. But this being the internet it too often dissolved into insults. Which I am admittedly guilty of. I crossed the line recently. Strong feelings and bourbon dont mix!

Anyone who questions that should reevaluate.

(25,183 posts)to the JFK-LBJ ticket, and that was very different. Only a handful of states held primaries in 1960, and party bosses controlled outcomes from smoke-filled rooms in those days.
Barack Obama had complete freedom to make his own pick. I saw a play this last week about the last campaign of RFK, and the writer/actor used historical documents to put together a very moving show. At one point, he mentioned that RFK was the one sent to LBJ to "offer" him the VP slot by the party bosses, and when Johnson unexpectedly accepted, they sent Bobby again to talk him out of it.

(18,486 posts)I don't believe any of the other top tier of current candidates was either in public office or expressed any interest in running for president or vice president 11 years ago.
Given that, any argument that Obama's selection of Biden as his running mate in 2008 means that, ipso facto, Biden is the best choice in this current field to be president in 2021 is spurious.

(14,249 posts)Its a factor to consider, but other than that, the Obama picked him, so shut up argument is ridiculous and suggests its proponents arent confident in his record.

(11,949 posts)No one said shut up. The closest is someone saying others need to re-evaluate.
What I read that they trust President Obamas decision. Honorable people can disagree, and we all often do. I happen to agree but respect those that dont.
But telling someone to shut, in my opinion, would be beyond the pale.
Have a nice evening.

(14,249 posts)to prove to voters why (besides his having been Obamas vice president) he should be the next president - including talking about and explaining where necessary his pre-2009 record?
Because whether you think my shut up comment was accurate or hyperbole, thats what some people here are communicating with their Obama picked him and thats good enough for me and if you dont agree you're saying Obama picked a racist responses to suggestions that Bidens record should be scrutinized.

(11,949 posts)Its how we pick our candidates.
I was just commenting on what I read. No one said shut up if you disagree. Unless I missed something and saying that would be over the line. What I read was Obama picking him was enough for them. Which I happen to disagree with. Thats not, in my opinion, enough reason to support a candidate.
Honorable people can and do disagree.
Things will be tense enough here without added hyperbole.

(18,486 posts)In selecting Biden as VP, did Obama erase any responsibility Biden had for that vote?
If Biden's Iraq War vote comes up during the primaries, will anyone say with a straight face that Biden can't be questioned about it because he was Obama's vice president?
Or does that only apply when it comes to Biden's past positions on civil rights because, you know, Magic Negro syndrome?

(6,280 posts).... that so many Democratic Underground members do not think Obama was a good judge of character.
"He's an expert on foreign policy whose heart and values are rooted firmly in the middle class. He has stared down dictators and spoken out for America's cops and firefighters. He is uniquely suited to be my partner as we work to put our country back on track."

(14,249 posts)They think for themselves, will consider all of the candidates, proposed plans, and records - including Bidens both pre and post 2009, and decide for themselves who they think should be president.
I think Biden is too smart to rely on the derivative Obama picked him so Ill pick him, too vote to sweep him to the White House, no matter what some of his supporters here think.
