Biden apologizes for highlighting work with segregationists during SC speech

SUMTER -- Amid a rough week on the campaign trail, 2020 hopeful and former Vice President Joe Biden fired back at critics of his record on race-related issues during a stop in Sumter Saturday.

With a solid early lead in the Democratic presidential nominating race, Biden told a crowded gym at the M.H. Newton Family Life Center he planned to take on critics of his 44 year record of public service directly.

“If you look at the issues I’ve been attacked on, nearly every one of them is for something well before 2008,” Biden said. “It’s as if my opponents want you to believe I served from 1972 until 2008, and then took the next eight years off. They don’t want to talk much about my time as vice president.”

Biden touted his record as President Barack Obama’s No. 2, adding that if he could pass the Obama campaign’s vetting process in 2008, he was fit for the job of president now.

The only thing I know of that was his to lead was the gun control legislation.

And we know how that ended.

But it’s light on actual accomplishments as VP.

Obama mentioned making college more affordable but I also remember that DOE got rid of Pell
Grants for summer which really hurt working students who often take classes in the summer because they can’t take full loads in the regular semesters.

for the legislative victories in the first half of President Obama's first term. His knowledge of the processes and people there were instrumental in getting the ACA, for instance. Barack Obama barely had two years in a US Senate seat under his belt as his sole Congressional experience before hitting the campaign trail.

It makes me wonder what others running for the nomination have in their back pocket to accomplish the same.

“I wrong a few weeks ago to somehow give the impression to people that I was praising those men who I successfully opposed time and again? Yes, I was. And I regret it. I’m sorry for any of the pain and misconception I may have caused anybody.”

So, Joe has apologized to Kamala without mentioning her name. How to react if you’ve been bashing Harris for two weeks only to have Joe acknowledge she had a valid point?
