I used to really like her. She used to have a broader and more honest perspective on both issues and politicians than she's been showing lately. As the primaries have heated up, she's even been (deliberately?) reporting facts inaccurately – which for me was the last straw.
So I've stopped watching her.
Actually, in the last month, I've stopped watching cable news commentary entirely– better for my health that way.

Actual news, or actual talks by actual candidates, is one thing.
Pointless speculation is another.
So no talking-head shows for me for a long while, I think.

She flat out lied about her homophobic blogs being "hacked". I'm surprised she kept her show.

These are some of my favorite Joy Reid quotes from her blogs (sarcasm):

In the last few months, she's lied about both Biden and Buttigieg, too, in both cases with regard to African-American issues. In both cases, the truth was out there, reported in the mainstream media. Because the facts are out there for any responsible journalist to see, her inaccurate reporting had to be a deliberate choice, not just a "mistake." (Even a "mistake" would be indefensible, as it would reflect malpractice-level journalistic laziness).

I presume that there are more instances, too - those are just the ones I've noticed.

against Biden that it may as well have been Trump they were talking about. It was waaaay over the top. I think even David Gura was taken aback by all the vehemence and frankly, venom. I turned it off

And to the DUer on the other thread that curtly asked me why I tuned in at all (I wasn't able to respond in that misplaced thread in GD), but I really don't expect MSNBC to allow itself to become so one-sided against one or more Dems. I really don't and as I said, it appears the host (Gura) didn't feel comfortable about it either--but he did little to stop it. I know the word "militant" has unfortunate connotations, but I have to use it especially for the woman pundit seated next to Elie Mystal. He was likewise on a tear, but at least not so aggressive about it. On edit it was this person (Sally Kohn, https://twitter.com/sallykohn who ironically has a book on her twitter account for sale: 'The Opposite of Hate: a Field Guide to Repairing our Humanity' ... Oh, brother, the irony drips... Oh, and get this, she was a former Fox News commentator. Any wonder, folks?

I have both Kamala and Biden in my top five, so before the few who always want to imply I'm for (fill in the blank) candidate and against (fill in the blank) candidate, that isn't the case. I do expect MSNBC not to be overtly picking sides during primary season.

by her biases lately. Including myself. It's OK to show a little favoritism here and there, but her heavy handedness has been really obvious and over the top. I really hope someone sits down with her soon and tells her how it's coming across.

Then again, there's a possibility that she's being forced to do this by MSNBC.

On a side note, when you think about the ridiculous questions asked at the debates--like the one on healthcare for undocumented immigrants, etc, it's almost as if reporters and/ or networks are eager to attend their own funeral--because if trump "wins" next year, it's not just the 99% who will be f*cked. It will be a wrap for them as well. Yet, they keep helping trump and his narrative.

Joy has her opinion, and we can take it or leave it. What has bothered me about her for a while is that she often doesn't seem to have her facts straight, or she overstates or exaggerates something. I don't care which candidate she supports - she's just doing an op-ed piece - but I do care whether she's accurate. I distinctly remember Joy egging on the idea of Biden running in 2016 (early, early days of primary, before he had announced that he would not be running), so that there would be an "alternative to Hillary", and said that he would be running on "a continuation of the Obama years". It's clear to me now that she was not being genuine, and that it was just a talking point against Hillary.

I'm not officially decided on anyone, but the thing that's really turning me off is...if you want to run against Biden from the left, there are plenty of contrasts to be made on his record and many years of public service. But every time I go on Twitter (I acknowledge that only a small percentage of the actual voting population is on Twitter), the emphasis is on some new fake controversy over something Biden has said, the latest one apparently people being outraged that, when asked in an interview whether Biden would be open to nominating Merrick Garland again, he basically said "sure I'd be open to it". John Legend tweeted something like "he just doesn't get it. He's running for a panel on MTP". Give me a break. A lot of it seems phony, and I wish they would just stick to the very legitimate contrasts between the candidates rather than grasping at straws for each piece of evidence that Biden is "out of touch". I fear that it's not going to do us good in the long run.

If I were to vote in a presidential

So is Joy. There it is. Yes, both of them are extremely talented, but IMO they are playing what they see are the winning cards for the campaign and for their segment of the electorate.

It seems to pundits that this is the year for Black Women voters to make or break our 2020 hopes.

I became disappointed with Joy some time ago when she danced around her former homophobic remarks on her blog. Yet she is so damn smart --- HOWEVER as a host for a major cable network, she should be as unbiased as possible amongst our primary candidates until we have a nominee.

But the network lets her get away with it. Perhaps because of the weekend? Don't know, but now when I see her I change the channel and I used to seek her out.

I would rather Joy not make subtle digs at him like "do America's voters want to cling to nostagia, or do the want to move forward?"

Come General Election 2020, Biden vs. Trump, Joy had better damn well be in whole hearted support of Biden.

133. Was reading a WaPo political commentary on the debate. What was interesting were the comments
Sun Jul 7, 2019, 09:30 AM
Jul 2019

following it.

Despite the article’s congratulatory tone for Harris’s debate performance, the majority of well over a thousand comments in response criticized her tactics. One responder mentioned that across online news sites, she was often finding that while a news piece was laudatory to Harris and trashed Biden, reading audiences weren’t necessarily “going with the program.”

Now the news headlines and tv programs are stating that Joe has apologized for the “segregationist remarks” he made when he “praised two segregationists.”

I’ve already had to shut off MSNBC for the day, even before Joy, as a frequent guest continued to
raise doubts about Biden’s record, turning now to his recent comments about the 1994 crime bill in South Carolina, deeming them self-serving, an example that he still refuses to accept responsibility for his disastrous legacy.

Interestingly, an audience of two hundred, predominantly black South Carolinians roared their approval at the speech’s end.

Go figure.

Everyone at DU loved Joy Reid when she spent her time attacking Sanders. Now that she's critical of another candidate she's suddenly awful.

You know who else thinks Joy Reid is awful? Glenn Greenwald.

The troubling aspect in this thread, whichever candidate you support, is that its the job of a journalist to help a politician win or lose an election. Joy isnt a particularly great journalist, but you can't blame her if Trump is reelected.
