Bernie Sanders Plays the Long Game

July 5, 2019 at 4:42 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard

“Bernie Sanders may be falling behind some of his rivals in the crowded Democratic presidential field, dipping in early polls and seeing his campaign outraised by at least two rivals. But this week, he opened a new campaign office here and is already investing in states holding primaries eight months away,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“The message from the Vermont senator: I’m not going anywhere.”

in Vermont. Strikingly so, according to political analysts who note that he’d never given the requested support to in-state Sanders-type Progressives who sought to be his successors there.

My best guess is he wants to hold onto power and leadership as long as possible, to have a following, then spend the rest of his public life blaming Democrats for joining Republicans to defeat the will of the people. The usual.

He would want to win, of course, but he’s already played a spoiler role in two prior elections, stating both times that it didn’t matter that Democrats lost because there was no real difference between the two parties. He’s never changed his mind on that, and I suspect AOC’s condemnation of Republicans and cooperation with Dems is taken by him as a bad sign.

Bernie doesn't get the same news coverage anymore. Everyone has written him off except for the throngs of devotees and people who naively believe their student loans will be erased.
