Rich father-in-law has helped, complicated O'Rourke's career

EL PASO, Texas (AP) — Beto O’Rourke was running for the El Paso City Council in 2005 when he asked to meet with the illustrious real estate investor William Sanders.

Sanders had earned a fortune and a reputation as a brilliant businessman in Chicago before returning to his remote hometown on the West Texas-Mexico border. He thought the aspiring politician was there to solicit a donation. But O’Rourke was seeking permission to marry Sanders’ daughter Amy, whom he’d met less than three months before.

“I sat down with him in his office and he was kind of an imposing figure and I was very nervous,” O’Rourke said in a phone interview. After he asked for Sanders’s blessing, it got worse: His future father-in-law spent “a lot of time talking about her previous boyfriend, whom he liked a lot.”

“It was a very awkward — very, very awkward — conversation.”

If Beto is not on the ticket or in the administration, then I believe that he could be an effective challenger to Gov. Abbott in the 2022 election. A lot will depend on what happens in the Legislature in 2021, but if the public sees partisan gerrymandering like they did in 2011 then it could spur a big response. The demographics are also favoring Democrats as the white population becomes a minority.

I think it is premature to state that Beto's career is over anywhere and the same also applies to Castro.

I missed it. How bad was it? Beto terrifies Republicans, even those who dislike Trump because they know if Beto is the nominee that Texas will go Blue and will probably stay that way. The bots and trolls that manipulated things in 2016 have infiltrated every corner of the internet to try to influence elections. It would be quite foolish to assume it hasn't happened here too. People need to be vigilant and never just believe what is posted...always verify and do the research.

Kinda the same as a new meme being promulgated online - that he is too dumb to know when to quit

I know he's not the only one to do it. I'm glad they are still married - 3 months is not long and that could show poor judgment!
