Appropriate vetting vs Political Hit Jobs

How are we in the general public able to know the difference.
Especially now with the Russian influence and the GOP having lost any pretense of playing fair and embracing outright lies and smears as normal campaign procedures.

We all want the best most scandal free nominee we can find.
So examining voting records and prior statements is usually important normal vetting.
But none of us want to see our candidates skewered with falsehoods or half truths whether the source be opposing Democratic campaigns or Republican campaigns.

I no longer can discern the difference.
And who has time to try to track down the truth when negative stories come out.
And even if you did have time, what sources of information do you trust.
Are there any that are bias free.
I tend to trust the Times and the Post the most but even they have been fooled before.
I try to find the “originating” source of such stories when I can and ask who has the most to gain by exposing or leaking this story to a media outlet.
But that still won’t tell me if the story is true and if there is there any missed nuance or mitigating circumstances. Politicians and office holders make many decisions every day that have their pros and cons. We all hope they do so with the highest of intentions. Of course, not all do.

One of the reasons that I may remain undecided during the primary season until we get a nominee is that I don’t want to fall in love with one of our candidates only to see them railroaded out of the race for legitimate or illegitimate reasons.
The Trump years have just worn me down too much.
I just wish I could turn the clock ahead one year to next years DNC Convention where I can give my full support to what I hope is a ticket that has strong broad appeal amongst all of our constituencies and hasn’t been too banged up by opposing Dems, crooked Republicans, or interfering foreign entities.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

liberal & non-partisan sources citing polls & studies on busing's ineffectivness.

National polls from Gallup showing a majority of whites and a plurality of blacks opposed court-enforced busing.

MSNBC's Up With David Gura reported Biden's district in Delaware was overwhelmingly against court-enforced busing and cited Civil Rights Project UCLA's report that busing has had little long-term effects.

MSNBC's Steve Kornacki cited polls stating the same.

Bernie Sanders recently unearthed quote against court-enforced busing from the early 70s.

There are precious few studies that assign a loose association of successful long-term integration with court-enforced busing vs. volumes of studies stating the opposite. Yet, I keep reading here and hearing millenial "guests" on MSNBC shows, who often don't look old enought to have voted for Barack Obama, citing unnamed studies that actual studies found with a quick google search contradict. (that's actually a tried and true method of persuasion. Claiming studies exist and hoping no one asks "what studies?&quot

One wonders if this "progressive" handwringing is just one more example of either a lack of understanding of the times, support for bad policy based on it's intent but not the reality of it in practice, or the more likely - hoping others don't know the facts on the ground so they can score political points.

The propoderance of the evidence suggests Biden's case was a hit job, planned in advance, to further a certain segment on the left's already suspicion of established Democrats.

The latest on Harris, which I and several others have reported here, smells like hit pieces, too. But when your candidate is trailing, you'll believe anything that might knock those leading down a notch or two.

but we have to let the process unfold. There are going to be bumps and bruises. That's the nature of it.

All of this will be left behind in a year and that's when it's crucial that we all rally behind our candidate. It would be nice if it could be kumbaya all the way through, but some grilling is in order first. We need to know who can take the heat without withering.

As for what's real and what's not, always check for the source. If you have reservations about any information you read or hear, see if you can verify it through trusted media.

"The Trump years have just worn me down too much."

Funtatlaguy, you gotta dig deep. We can't allow Trump to trample us into the ground. We need to summon our reserves and get this bastard out of office.

If the squabbling here at the DU is really affecting you that much, consider taking some time away. Or hang out primarily in the Lounge for lighter content.

There are a lot of great people here. You can come back and feel a greater sense of unity down the road.

It’s just that I know how completely corrupt and evil this administration is and it’s enablers are.
I worry that we’ve got such wealthy powerful enemies that they can destroy anything and anyone.
But, yes, we have to fight back with everything we can muster.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
