Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumMSNBC: Delaney is having a fight over health care with Ali Velshi.
Velshi is struggling to explain the Canadian system to Delaney. Stephanie just rolled her eyeballs.
Velshi is telling Delaney he is wrong and Delaney just won't listen to anything Velshi is saying. Delaney is insisting that Medicare for all would close "every hospital in the country."
She just said: "Stop" like she is talking to her kids!

(10,063 posts)Delaney is just wrong simple as that, I am Canadian. The other thing most dems get wrong is that there is still room for insurance companies for those areas not covered by universal health. Most unions or companies offer extended health benefits to their employees. It is incumbent upon these candidates to study other systems around the globe to find the best system. I wish our Canadian politicians would do that to make some fixes to our system, which is good but could always be better.

(58,676 posts)the real problem is funding. That will always be true, because the only way to fund any system we put in place will require more taxes, especially on the 1%ers. The primary problem with Medicare is that Repub led Congresses have let reimbursement rates languish, so more and more doctors, hospitals, and clinics can't afford to treat Medicare users. Medicaid actually works fairly well in states the have robust support for it.
The "cheapest" system is to cover everybody for everything and everybody pays proportionally to their income/wealth.
Oh, and you also have to regulate the insurers and providers, which the ACA tried to do, but the Repubs have been trying to dismantle.
