Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumRyan wasn't good & he didn't articulate it well, but he has a point regarding industrial areas
or should I say post industrial...
This is often dismissed here and similar places as "chasing after white voters who won't vote for Democrats."
One this is just about about "white" voters and not all of them are hopelessly gone to the GOP.
I grew up in a steel town.
I understand exactly the point that he tried to make and the people who live there.
I saw it as a blind spot in 2016 and it could be again.

As far as any blind spots in 2016, Hillary had policy proposals up the wazoo to help people in industrial areas. That the media didnt bother covering them or people went deaf when she spoke of them during the debates and on the stump wasnt her fault.
Are you suggesting Ds need to get out there and lie their asses off the way tRump did in 2016, offering a shitload of feel-good bullshit to a bunch of people who are - apparently - easily duped?

(5,803 posts)I can't stand either one of them, but she seriously made him look like a complete fool last night.
He is completely out of his league.
His big eyed blank stare was super strange.

(1,810 posts)To be fair, it's difficult to bring into a campaign considering who the base of the party currently is.
Clinton had some great ideas and plans for "industrial areas." Some of them were hard truths. All were laced with optimism and opportunity coming out the other side of many knowingly failing industries. Some to bring manufacturing back to life and some to move on. Yet she didn't go to these areas and hit them hard. She did go but not very often.
It's hard when we have what we need to win in our base. And our base, in large, is outside of these areas. Our base has many different concerns. It seems to have been a time management issue when it came to the Clinton campaign because she sure had the ideas to lay out to them.

(68,620 posts)We have a shot at PA, WI and MI...WV...none. Not saying going forward, it should not be targeted in a 50 state effort...but too late in this cycle...we need to rebuild the blue wall or we lose...I don't see anyone accept Biden (maybe Ryan) able to do that.

(45,120 posts)consecutive presidential elections from 1988 through 2012. In 2016 it went Republican, as did MI and PA. Other Dems can and have won those states right up until 2016. Any Dem can win, not just Biden. All they have to do is campaign and put in a good ground game. Trump has lost support in those states. They have been and can be again The Blue Wall.

(68,620 posts)fail to understand,we have no path for a Senate majority without such voters and states, and we have no path to the presidency in 20 or 24...maybe even longer without rebuilding the blue wall.

(622 posts)campaign in red states as well as blue or swing states. In Tn we never see dem or rep candidates here, nor do we see very many ads. Thats why I like Warren. She goes to red communities and poor communities who vote red. Ryan should run for governor in Ohio. They have a lot more control in a state than Senators. IMHO

(22,119 posts)I think he could have delivered these states.
But Joe Biden is also talking about the "dignity of work". I think that can prevail.
