Beto O'Rourke elicits memes as he tackles debate question in Spanish

It didn't take long in the 2020 Democratic presidential debates for one candidate to emerge from the pack.

In this case, it happened to be former U.S. Rep. Beto O'Rourke, who tackled a question Wednesday night about the economy by answering in Spanish.

The move prompted a look of surprise from Sen. Cory Booker, which Twitter users quickly picked up on.

"[O'Rourke] threw down the gauntlet and I had to respond," Booker told MSNBC's Chris Matthews after the debate.

Eccentric and a bit aloof. He may be popular in Texas but I don't see his personality quirks being a bonus in the Rust Belt states.
