On Wed. Elizabeth Warren to visit a detention center in FL.

Last edited Wed Jun 26, 2019, 03:20 AM - Edit history (2)

What a day she's going to have -- the detention center in Florida followed by the evening debate.

At tonight's town hall in Miami, an audience member asked me to go to the Homestead detention center—where the Trump administration is holding immigrant children separated from their families—and shine a light on what's happening. I'll be there tomorrow—and I hope you'll join me.

"I'm going to Homestead tomorrow. Come with me," Warren said Tuesday night at a Miami town hall, after an attendee urged her to visit the facility in order "to bring the press" and "national attention" to the children.

The visit to Homestead -- just hours ahead of the first Democratic debate in Miami -- was previously unscheduled. Warren advisers said she had decided to make the visit after speaking to immigration advocates backstage before her Miami campaign event.

The facility, which is about 45 minutes from Miami, is an influx facility run by the Department of Health and Human Services for unaccompanied children, who remain there until placed with sponsors in the US. There are around 2,300 children currently at Homestead, according to Evelyn Stauffer, spokeswoman for the HHS' Administration for Children and Families.

"It's been a year ago right now, when we were first hearing about children separated from their parents at the border," said Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat and presidential hopeful. "I went down to McAllen, Texas, and visited one of these facilities."

to force Trump to let them inside?

It's maybe not best look, at least for a lot of them.

I think Liz can pull it off though, make something good come of it.

After an Oregon senator was denied access to a detention center in Brownsville, U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro said he's planning to draft a bill that would guarantee access to federal lawmakers visiting such facilities.

"It's important because they're housing vulnerable people, particularly minors," Castro, a San Antonio Democrat, said at a Wednesday afternoon news conference. He added that it's crucial for members of Congress, who are charged with overseeing the function of government agencies, to "have the ability to inspect these facilities."

Castro's announcement comes after U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Oregon, planned to visit unaccompanied immigrant children at a detention facility in Brownsville on Sunday. Minutes after he arrived, officials from the center called the police and told him to leave the property. After a brief interaction with Brownsville police officers, the senator was asked to leave by police, and he complied.

Hows about 80,000 or 100,00 or more appalled and concerned peaceful citizens who just happen to "show up"

Don't give notice you all are coming, (so Trump can send his goonies in advance of your arrival), just casually meander to that destination. You can't get into trouble for un-lawful assembly or loitering if you all are just walking around the neighborhoods......

Once they are all there, they can ALL call on their cell phones to bombard the different media that they might want to get off their
collective asses and come on down to one of the most corrupt acts ever criminally enacted by our very own President of
the United States and his enablers, the Republicans in the U. S. Senate......And oh, don't forget to include that enabler Ms. Melanoma that is married to this so called president, and her constant comments about "her love for children." (I guess she owes him big time for his bravely ignoring the U.S. laws, and bringing her into the U.S. as an illegal alien a few years ago, even though the way he did it was illegal at the time.........)

But what do you expect from him illegally bringing AN EXTREMELY HIGH PRICED ILLEGAL ALIEN ESCORT MODEL over to America, later marrying her, and then his decadent showing publicly to the world photographs her naked, fully displaying her bare ass and bare breasts for all to see his flaunting of the citizenship law........ LOL

Delighted to be working alongside so many people both inside and
outside of government to better the lives of children everywhere!"
