DU POLL: For those who voted for Sanders in the 2016 primary, will you pick him again in 2020?

With the understanding that one could easily change preferences between now and voting day depending on things like what happens in the debates, who else is still in the race, etc., just based on how you feel today, which response would you pick?

I expect to vote for Sanders again this time.
3 (27%)
I expect to vote for someone other than Sanders this time.
7 (64%)
I intend to vote for whoever will most definitively beat Trump, so it will depend on how Sanders is polling against Trump when it comes time to vote.

When it’s our state’s turn to vote. I could be convinced to vote for a few different candidates in the primary although I will say I am most interested in Sanders and Warren.

6. Hilary had lots of 2016 support despite the divisiveness of her 2008 campaign against Obama

but 8 years is longer than 4... plus Obama clearly put it behind him by making her Sec'y of State, so once Obama said it was okay to like Hillary, I think that transition was eased. Hillary has not made the same kind of public peace with Sanders. Of course, she's not really in the position to, either. It's not like she could give him a cabinet position.

Right now, I could see myself voting for him again, or for Warren. There aren't any others I'm giving serious consideration.

I would guess that if it were Hillary and Bernie again this time, virtually all the Bernie voters would still be Bernie voters. But there are so many other choices this time... plenty of possible candidates for the non-Hillary folk to prefer.

Really, even in 2016, there were people saying they wanted Warren, but she wasn't running, and Bernie was the next best thing.

I agree with your points, though. There are so many good choices this cycle, and it's not a binary decision this time.

As for Warren, I don't subscribe to the notion that Warren and Sanders are interchangeable (policy-wise), but with her in the race, I just don't see how he's a better option even if it was just the two of them. Add in the other five or so top candidates, and there are a lot of options for his 2016 supporters to consider.

13. I absolute will NOT vote for Sanders this time around.

In fact, who I ultimately vote for may be a strategic decision based on ensuring Sanders does not become the nominee (e.g., I prefer Warren, but if it takes voting for Biden to prevent Sanders from becoming the nominee, that is how I will vote). I will not forget how his supporters (and Russians and Republicans) co-opted my vote for Sanders in 2016 and used it against Hillary Clinton in an effort to help elect Donald Trump. Never again.
