As Beto ORourke continues to hold off on an announcement about his political plans, people working closely with him have begun making inquiries in New Hampshire about matters that would be central to a mounting a presidential campaign in the leadoff primary state, WMUR reports.
Key Democratic sources who are not involved in any effort to draft ORourke told WMUR that people close to ORourke have reached out to politically knowledgeable Granite Staters seeking advice on specifics concerning what a New Hampshire campaign would entail.

(1,397 posts)Im a Texan and a big Beto fan. His campaign against Cruz was very well done, very humane, little negativity. A really nice change around here.
But I dont see how that type of campaign will work nationwide, and Betos charisma isnt enough to carry him in a pack of some equally charismatic Democratic candidates.
I believe he is talented and has the experience to be a fine president. But Im not at all certain he has enough CAMPAIGN experience to pull it off.
With each day that passes without an announcement, Im gaining more interest in, and respect for, a couple of our other candidates while Beto is becoming more of a meh.
Cmon, Beto. Beto?

(112,467 posts)The fact that he is hiring staffers provides the indication that he is running. He is already placing in the top half-dozen candidates according to the latest NH polls. I also believe that he will do well in the other early primary states such as Iowa. He will also do well in most of the southern states. I believe that he will make an announcement by the end of this month.
There is no need for him to make an immediate announcement since it is still several months before the debates. Beto also likely retains a sizable amount of money from his Senate campaign that he can transfer to his presidential campaign (possibly more than Bernie). Beto also has a sizable crew of volunteers from the Senate campaign that will be sending text messages, making phone calls, and making household visits for him--I was hearing from them about three times a week from July through Election Day.

(10,842 posts)that Beto was not seeking the Senate seat and would jump into the presidential race. Once Biden and O'Rourke jump in, things are going to get really interesting.
