(14,176 posts)Young, white, male. The only real competition is Ms Abrams, and that's only if the top of the ticket is a white man, which seems unlikely IMO

(349 posts)I like both of the candidates from Texas, but we can't have two.
In terms of a constructive suggestion, I think they should have decided on one of them to take on Cornyn. If they couldn't come to an agreement, they could have flipped a coin. Then each of them would endorse and support the other, and when the one in the presidential campaign gets defeated (which is basically certain, though with unified support he'd have a better chance to get the V-P slot) he would go to work full-time on the other's Senate campaign against Cornyn.
As things now stand, I think there is going to be a lot of chaos and by the time the smoke clears it will be too late to put a strong candidate against Cornyn, who is a HUGE piece of garbage. I am totally embarrassed by his antics and his claims to represent me in ANY way--but I think most Texans are fine with him and he's nowhere near the inhuman miserableness of Lying Ted, so the odds of throwing the bum out are small. And shrinking the longer it takes to put a strong opponent against him.

(2,113 posts)Beto WILL win Texas AND help MJ beat Cornyn. Two-birds...and many more down ticket Republicans will be sent packing.

(43,535 posts)A second consecutive general election loss would more than likely end his (Beto's) electoral career.
The ones I am most pissed about not running for Senate are Bullock in MT (he is the ONLY Dem who would go in the favourite versus Daines), Hickenlooper in CO, although we will find someone else (hopefully not a pro-fracker like Hickenlooper as well) and win as Gardner is weak, so weak, and then Stacey Abrams in GA (Perdue is ripe for the taking and Abrams would have been the best by far) and finally Susan Rice i Maine, who would have been by far the best to take out a still very popular (NO CLUE WHY) Susan Collins, who is over 60% still in the polls.
Oh, add in Cindy Axne, another big decliner (grrrrr), in Iowa, against the detestable Joni Ernst.
Many say, going back to Texas, that MJ Hegar has almost as good as chance as Beto in Texas with Cornyn. I hope I am wrong, but I would not rate anyone we run to beat that fucker.

(2,113 posts)I think that is some of the reason why his poll numbers aren't as high as people expected yet. Young voters don't get polled as much. He also appeals to non-voters and brings new people into the mix. I think this ability is the best way to overcome meddling and attempts to cheat by Rpublicans. New voters with no voting history are very difficult for people to gauge. That's why grassroots movements work.

The room was bursting with enthusiasm. Not only was it great optics to get down with the people, but I'm sure the attendees appreciated a change of pace after listening to speaker after speaker at the podium since this morning. And very genuine Beto--since he never uses notes or a teleprompter, he can leave the podium behind.
