Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumIn South Carolina, Biden is Democrats' top choice
<snip>
"Joe Biden is the top choice for his party's nomination among South Carolina Democrats, according to the latest CBS News Battleground Tracker. But Democratic voters in the Palmetto are considering other candidates too. And this is true of African Americans as well, who could make up 60% of the electorate in the state's primary next year."
"Most African-Americans are considering Biden and half are considering Sanders. A third of black voters are considering supporting Kamala Harris.
South Carolina will be the first Democratic contest in 2020 where a majority of the voters will likely be African-American."

(15,512 posts)But it doesn't seem to be doing much for their numbers.
Warren - 8%
Booker - 4%
I imagine Warren will pick up a few points in SC with her latest plans to stuff dollars in every shoe but I doubt they'll do more than push her past Sanders.

(25,183 posts)unless something really radical happens, Joe Biden will win SC. The question is, how well will he do outside the South? Especially in states that he would need to win in November, I have strong doubts that he would win any Southern state outside of Virginia and maybe Florida in a general election, especially if he keeps tacking away from the center during the primary season.

(25,183 posts)Barack Obama won there, but Trump won in 2016. If we have an African-American candidate (or as VP) as the nominee in 2020, yes, NC could be in play.

(146,317 posts)could win SC in the general election, too. A strong turnout of AA voters could make that happen, and that might affect other important races, as well.
It seems clear he'll win most or all of the delegates from SC. I don't expect this picture to change much.

(10,831 posts)Biden's AA support is a huge advantage. And these wowsa numbers have been consistent right from the start. Biden is a known quantity and has genuine civil rights bona fides, despite the recent dustup. I think that's why we saw such a swift response from the CBC.
That being said I think Kamala Harris will eventually be able to spike some numbers in places like SC. She, too, is a quality candidate.
