Wow! Cory just set Joe straight on CNN about who should apologize...

...and it is not Cory!

Once again I'm impressed with one of our great Dem candidates. Funny all impress me, except Joe.

Sorry, but his comments about "working with" the Repugs were enough to convince me. The rest of what Joe has said convinces me I'm correct about that.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:

Black lawmakers get Biden's back amid 'segregationist' uproar
'I worked with Strom Thurmond all my life,' Jim Clyburn says.

By LAURA BARRÓN-LÓPEZ and HEATHER CAYGLE 06/19/2019 02:56 PM EDT

Senior members of the Congressional Black Caucus leaped to former Vice President Joe Biden’s defense Wednesday after he touted his bipartisan work with known segregationists as a time of “civility.”

Progressives pounced on the remarks, and two other White House hopefuls criticized the 76-year-old Democratic presidential poll leader over his comments at a fundraiser Tuesday night. But more than a half-dozen CBC members argued that Biden’s remarks were taken out of context and that the former senator’s call for decency is needed now more than ever.

Booker should concentrate on his own strengths rather than trying to paint Biden as a segregationist sympathizer.

Because the real segregationist sympathizer is Donald Trump. It is Trump who encourages White Supremacists. Seems like an illconcieved cheap shot from Booker’s staff to get him attention

What would get my attention is Booker and Biden debating policy.

to apologize to an old white man who is out of touch when it comes to the Republican party. Past or present. No, it is not done. And the suggestion, no make that demand, by many here is offensive and downright disgusting. There has been no mischaracterization when to come to Biden and his view of Republicans. He respects them, he has been more than clear on that and there is no difference, none in Eastland from the racist past and the racist assholes today. THAT has been my biggest disappointment in Biden.

Biden and Booker will be focused on the real White Supremacist enabler, President Donald J Trump.

I don’t share your belief that Biden doesn’t understand what Republicans are capable of or believes there’s no difference. “I refuse to work with Republicans who can get on board with parts of the Democratic agenda” isn’t a winning position for either the Primary or the General Election.

That may be a popular stance on DU. But we aren’t at all representative of the Democratic Primary Electorate.

Democrats do want Republicans to come on board whose constituents have told them to support universal healthcare, overturn the ridiculous Trump Taxcuts that have hurt them, and modernize our infrastructure, and protect the integrity of our elections. Yes Republicans who actually listen to their constituents are a rare breed but some do exist.

So we’ll have to disagree on that point.

Rep Jeffries gave an anodyne statement about people working together, Rep Richmond said nothing, and Rep Beatty just mentioned the VP's experience rather than his comments.

Rep Rush and Sen Booker (and Sen Harris after the article was published) did not "have his back" on his comments an we have no idea how the many other members of the CBC feel, so perhaps it's another example of a Politico article whose content and headline are at loggerheads

I don't want our candidates to slang each other. But I also think in 2019, a black man shouldn't have to remind a white man why "boy" is not always a term of endearment or why a vicious old segregationalist shouldn't be recalled fondly.
And I don't agree with the idea that he can wax on about Eastland and Booker can't say, "Hey, wait?"

And we've just heard that this wasn't just a chance comment-- that Biden's advisors specifically suggested he find a non-lynching-supportive example (my term, not theirs!).

Biden should accept this as yet another teachable moment. Just... be careful. Think twice. I know how hard that is-- I'm a "blurter" myself. But thinking before speaking is usually a good thing in a candidate.

I like Booker and I think he’s getting bad advice from his campaign staff. That doesn’t equal me wanting to “suppress” what Booker said.

Love hearing from all of our candidates.

I just believe that candidates attacking one another is wrong headed.

It is not what the Democratic Primary Electorate wants to hear. They want to hear about policy and helping the 99%, and reversing the damage Trump has done to destroy our country.

I also believe most of us are looking for positivity and collegiality this Primary season. I doubt anyone wants the pointless anger and acrimony we had here in Primary 2016. It was self destructive.

You obviously care about the direction of the country the same way I do, and we both agree on the progressive goals our candidates bring to the table this primary season.

We may have had some rocky times a while back. But things are too important these days to have petty disagreements when we both believe in the same things.

So there is no derision at all, and the niceties are genuine.

We believe you think he can win and that no other candidate can win the GE. Many of you has said so. But it creates an odd dynamic. We can't have an honest discussion about his strengths and weaknesses as a candidate because you believe he is our only salvation.

When you only have one salvation, you guard him against all criticism. Even when it's just your friends telling you your lifeboat sprung a leak.

“I was raised to speak truth to power. And I will never apologize for doing that. And Vice President Biden shouldn’t need this lesson. And at a time when we have from the highest offices in the land, divisiveness, racial hatred, and bigotry being spewed, he should have the sensitivity to know that ‘this is a time I need to be an ally… a healer, and not engage in usage of words that will harm folks. This is deeply disappointing.”

2. Appealing to people who don't care that it is misleading or betting that people are too lazy to read behind the misleading headline, and, or are too stupid to understand what they are reading. None of which is a very smart bet.

3. Number three is the only conclusion that thoughtful, intelligent people can you come to. That number one, and number two are impossible to be taken seriously, and are an embarrassment to the Democratic party.

He probably does have flaws, just like every other human being on the planet, but practically accusing somebody of being a racist by using sensational headlines and omitting key statements in the article is indeed trumpian. They were civil to one another, got some things done, but agreed on practically nothing. There is a single quote that pretty much shuts this carp down, and should be the cause of some degree of embarrassment for the anti Biden clique.

“I worked with Strom Thurmond all my life,” House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.), the highest-ranking African American in Congress, said of the infamous segregationist senator. “You don’t have to agree with people to work with them.”
