Is Joe Biden too old, white and washed up to succeed? Tell that to Jerry Brown

<snip>

"Too old, white and washed up.

A septuagenarian retread, not an exciting new face.

His time has come and gone.

No, I’m not talking about Joe Biden. I’m talking about Jerry Brown. When Brown emerged as a candidate for California attorney general in 2005, on a glide path back to the governor’s office, people talked lots of trash.

Brown went up against Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo in the 2006 primary for state attorney general. Delgadillo, a tall and dashing Mexican-American football player who attended Harvard, looked like the future. He was “a rising star in the Democratic party,” according to the legendary Mayor Sam blog. Unbeatable, some said.

Brown crushed him by 26 points."

He is literally ageless.

I have never felt quite the same way about Biden. Not for the Number One Spot.

If Biden gets the nom, I will support him, of course.

But he is going to have to win that nom on his own merits, not simply because he was an excellent Veep to an outstanding President.

I was a fan of Jerry Brown ever since reading a profile of him in Rolling Stone, way back when it was printed on cheap, folded newsprint.

I backed him each time he ran for POTUS. In fact, I had a tough time warming up to Bill Clinton after he won because he and Brown had such a skirmish during the primary debates.

I'd back Jerry again if he were to run for POTUS in 2020.

Biden will be 78 when he starts his presidential term. And though he's technically still a septuagenarian, he's actually closer to 80 even by this point than he is 70.

That's a big difference. A person over 70 can age a great deal in just six years.

I don't want a president this old. I find the idea absolutely absurd.

Even Warren will be only seventy, (which was OK for Trump, it seems). Joe plus a dynamic younger V.P. candidate! Any of his Democratic rivals would be crazy not to run with him: a win/win, considering Joe is obviously in far better physical and mental shape than Trump, even if a few years older. I'm sure Biden would bury Trump in debates (not that it ultimately helped Hillary to do so). By next year I doubt Trump will be functioning any better, but I feel sure Biden will still be sharp.

16. I was appalled by Biden's approach to Joy Reid when she asked the question about McConnell
Tue Jun 18, 2019, 02:49 PM
Jun 2019
DISCLOSURE: I like Biden, I liked him as a VP, I am not trying to bash him, I am expressing my opinion. I am not a fan of his running this time around, and if he becomes the nominee I will definitely support him, but I am hoping he does not become the nominee. I hope I don't offend anyone here, I believe I have the right to express my thoughts.

His body language of getting so close to Joy Reid bothered me, she looked uncomfortable, and the notion that he can work with republicans when the Obama administration was not able to do it, and he was part of that administration, is not real. Republicans are not interested in working with Democrats, even if they are "friends". I place quotes on the word "friends" because I have doubt republicans can be real friends. It is not realistic, I thought Elizabeth Warren's answer makes more sense and should scare the daylights of repubs.

If he thinks he can, why didn't he take a walk to McConnell's office when he was the VP and say "hey pal, you and I are friends, I understand your attitude regarding the opposition you and your party have agreed to against our administration, but we need to come up with some bipartisan efforts to help the country...blah, blah, blah..." I think you all get the gist of it.

So he was not able to do it when he was vice-president, but as president he believes he can? Not realistic. Biden carries a lot of baggage which we all know the republicans will be able to exploit and exaggerate, I hope I am wrong, but that is the way I see it right now. Repubs will bring up Anita Hill, his three votes supporting the Iraq invasion, and the buffoon can exploit that because he was not part of any of it.

Anyway, that is my humble opinion on Biden.

Very subtle and clever way to work in a meme that I' m sure the Repugs are considering against Joe. Considering Trump's long-known behavior with women, this takes considerable nerve. 18. A couple of things
Tue Jun 18, 2019, 03:13 PM
Jun 2019

- in 2010 Brown was running against Meg Whitman, who spent over a year prior to the election plastering ads on radio and TV stations to the point where voters were sick of her. She came over as someone who thought she could buy the governorship and use it as a stepping stone to national politics.
-one of Brown's stints between his times as governor was a mayor of Oakland, which gave him some recent grounding in the day-to-day lives of Californians. So when it came time to run for Attorney General/Governor he wasn't just running on long-past achievements.

I liked Biden as VP, and I think he'd be a great VP again if the nominee is someone like Buttigieg or O'Rourke, who needs someone who knows the ropes in Washington. He's not my choice for president, though, especially in light of his comments about working with the likes of McConnell. Biden hasn't had a position outside of politics since he was first elected to the Senate in the 1970s, and I think it shows.
