Buttigieg jokes about crowded Democratic field: 'We might as well carpool'

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D) joked Saturday about the sizable 2020 Democratic primary field, quipping that he and his fellow primary contenders "might as well carpool."

Buttigieg made the joke at a campaign event in Iowa, the site of the first caucuses of the 2020 primary, where he told a crowd in Des Moines that the Democrats "might as well carpool" as they travel around the early primary states, CNN reported.

"You would be surprised how often we are in dialogue with each other," Buttigieg added. "And as these cattle calls pick up we are going to get to know each other better and better."

Buttigieg also said during the event that he hopes the party will unify after the primaries end, telling his audience that he didn't see it "as having opponents so much as competitors."

From my banner below, it's obvious that I'm already a fan, but a good bit of my fandom is based on just this quality of not only getting the facts right, but getting the tone pitch-perfect. Right now, I'm watching what I think was his very first Iowa meet-and-greet, back in February, and he's handling the questions masterfully, even then, on (what I think was) Day 1 in Iowa. And ~4 months into this, he's even better now.

In 2007 the Democratic candidates held a discussion (I think it was on healthcare) on a military base. Almost all the candidates entered the base on a bus. The exception was HRC, whose vehicle got to park in a blocked-off parking lot. This (inadvertently?) reinforced the perceptions of "Queen Hillary" that had already started.

But a meme's a meme, such a useful device for the lazy pundit.

As I recall, when she came back "late" from a potty-break at a debate, the moderators snarked. On air. Turned out the women's restroom was way the hell and gone farther away from the debate stage than the men's restroom, AND as is usual for women's accommodations, there was a long line. She chose to stand in line, rather than cut through to the front. Oooohhh, Queen Hillary, what an arrogant woman to keep the moderators and other candidates waiting.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
