https://poll.qu.edu/texas/release-detail?ReleaseID=2625

I'm not saying one poll is dispositive but the fact Biden is beating Trump in a state Hillary Clinton lost by nine points counts for something. If Joe can put Texas in play he's well on his way to victory.

I just want to be rid of Trump.
If I were to vote in a presidential

There's bound to be more than a few positions he's taken over the years that you disagree with. That's certainly true for me anyway. But I'm not voting because of his past, I'm voting for him for the future. At this point in time I believe he's the best qualified to not only beat trump's ass into the ground, but also to heal and unite the country to repair the damage trump has done to it. In a different cycle under different circumstances, I'd probably support a different candidate. In this cycle Biden just feels like a man whose time has come.

in the ACA, women were outraged.

We remain deeply dismayed by it. President Obama campaigned as a pro-choice candidate. He campaigned as a person, he said, who was opposed to the Hyde Amendment. This deal, with Bart Stupak, is simply unacceptable,” said Terry O’Neill, president of the National Organization for Women.

It does change the status quo,” she said, stating that the order essentially denied abortion rights to low-income women.

It’s one thing to acknowledge that the Hyde Amendment has been passed every year for 30 years. It is quite a different thing to say that as if that’s OK, as if the leaders of Congress, who are pro-choice, are going to say we’re going to stop fighting that battle because we just don’t care about low- income women,” she said.

Abortion rights opponents were also unhappy with the order, saying it did not go far enough in banning government funding for abortions.

Wed Jun 5, 2019, 05:41 PM
Jun 2019

At 27% she has a 9 point lead over Biden and a 10 point lead (!) over Sanders. Biden runs away with all other groups. She also is in 2nd place in a general matchup against Trump.

Sanders does best among Democratic leaning voters rather than self-identified Democrats.

Trump can't crack 50% when pitted against ANY of the Dems listed in the matchups.

A third of white voters favor Biden, which is the kind of numbers we need to see in the state for a Dem to have a chance. It was about that with O'Rourke in 2018, but the high turnout among voters 65+ more than offset the vastly increased number of young voters. Traditionally only about a quarter of white voters have supported Dems, including Hillary. Other Dem candidates are getting closer to 30% of the white vote, enough to make the race close but probably not enough to win.

Voters under 50 break for Dems, especially those under 35 who look to be about D +20 in general (though they're +25 for Sanders and +29 for Biden). This is good news for the future.

John Cornyn also appears he might be vulnerable, he has a net +11 approval rating but it's still only 44% (lower than Cruz's 50%); nearly a quarter of voters don't know enough about him. I'd say it's time to start carpet bombing him. Most people want to see Beto drop out of the presidential race and run against Cornyn. Personally I think Hegar is a good candidate and contrasts well against the aging Senator.

Trump has a 39% approval rating among Hispanics. I think I've heard a similar number tossed around from Florida and maybe even nationally. Some things never cease to amaze.

35. Analysis: The election-defining Biden-can-win narrative just got a big boost
Wed Jun 5, 2019, 07:00 PM
Jun 2019

In February, we looked at Gallup’s approval rating polling for 2018, picking out an interesting detail. Of all of the states that Trump won in 2016, nowhere was he viewed less favorably than in Texas. His approval in the state was 39 percent over the course of the year, the sort of number that doesn’t slot easily into sentences like “Trump coasted to victory given his ___ percent approval rating in the state.” Perhaps something more like: “Trump’s ___ percent approval rating in the state was just too much to overcome.”

I mean, it’s not as though 2016 and 2018 were blowouts in the state, either. Clinton lost by nine points, though that was closer than the margin in Iowa, which in 2012 voted for Barack Obama. It was the closest the state had been since 1976, excluding 1992 and 1996 when Texan Ross Perot played spoiler. Last year, O’Rourke lost by less than three points.

Then there’s this new poll of Texans by Quinnipiac University. It has Trump struggling against a number of the Democrats running for the party’s 2020 nomination. He’s up only four points on Sen. Kamala D. Harris (D-Calif.) — and that’s the race in which he’s doing the best. Despite his relative success last year, O’Rourke loses to Trump by three points. Against Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Trump’s only up one.

Against former vice president Joe Biden? Trump is losing by four points.

turnout is very important though. the problem with texas has always been those who are likely to vote democratic just not being politically active and tuned out of state politics.

but Beto started to change this last year. it will take a lot of hard work. but there may be more potential there than florida and ohio .

45. That's not really the takeaway here

The takeaway is the same as it is from the recent NC poll that shows Trump trailing several Dems there. Same for Michigan and Wisconsin which are two more where he is underperforming relative to 2016. The takeaway is these are warning signs for Donnie.
Also, at this point Texas is probably going to be close enough in 2020 that the GOP will be forced to devote resources there for the first time in recent memory. That is a win for whoever is the nominee. The more territory Trump is forced to defend the better.

we don't know who are nominee is, what the economy is going to be like, are we going to be at war, what fresh hell, etc.

that's why there is a whole long process. Folks want to jump ahead of that process.

which is why I don't start thinking about what states we are going to win before we have a candidate or a single primary debate for that matter.
