John Delaney, crashed & burned today?

His wiki..."He was the United States Representative for Maryland's 6th congressional district from 2013 to 2019.[1] He is a member of the Democratic Party."

The Hill (@thehill) Tweeted:
Presidential candidate John Delaney booed at CA Dem convention for saying: "Medicare for all may sound good but it's actually not good policy nor is it good politics." https://t.co/aWwdeHM8nH

Alex "Taco Bell Lifestyle" Warneke (@alexwarneke) Tweeted:
@thehill https://t.co/btVVb4lh0L

Thomas Hamilton (@TDanger19) Tweeted:
@thehill Fun fact: John Delaney is a former health care financier, and received about 30 grand from the health care and pharmaceutical lobby for his campaigns.

I'm sure his criticism of Medicare for All is just a coincidence.
If I were to vote in a presidential

That this was perhaps not exactly a campaign advancing statement on the part of the candidate. One can understand that there will be a transition period or that it might take time to get it accomplished, but telling a bunch of Democrats that it's a bad idea, is probably not going to advance one's hopes of sitting in the Oval Office. But, I'm just guessin' here.

Tons of engaged voters who were really enthusiastic about some things and expressed justified displeasure over others.

Delaney I think was here being a bit willfully obtuse.
Yes, the “Medicare for all” bill requires private insurance to end in four years. That is never going to happen. Any phase in period must be much much longer. And politically we are going to need to provide a buy in option, and allow ppl to keep their insurance if they want. But he knows what his words meant to the audience...

Pretty sure there will be companies providing Cadillac coverage or bridge policies like they do for Medicare now.

if a candidate wants to get support the best is going into many of the local districts and see what people are doing . in california we learned we can start pushing laws at local levels and they will often make it to statewide level . examples are things like marijuana legalization, same sex marriage, minimum wage, ban on plastic bags which is now turning into requiring eco friendly products.

kick millions off their healthcare? Is he confusing it with something else. Medicare for all is just that—for all.

Then he goes on to say we should have universal healthcare. I want a smart candidate not someone dumb enough to deride a very popular idea in front of a Democratic crowd.

It’s clear we can’t just declare everyone on Medicare in 2021- too many people like their current coverage.
Which is why other Dem plans have it as an OPTION people can buy if they want. Ultimately two decades from now we’ll all be on Medicare.

12. JOHN DELANEY'S PLAN FOR Universal Health Care
Sun Jun 2, 2019, 07:59 PM
Jun 2019

John Delaney believes that health care is a fundamental right. He is proposing a universal health care plan that will provide high-quality care to everyone and replace our outdated system of employer-sponsored insurance.

'Delaney’s health care proposal:

Create a new public health care plan for all Americans under the age of 65 while preserving traditional Medicare. The new plan would protect the reforms delivered by the Affordable Care Act, including guaranteed coverage of preexisting conditions and essential health benefits, and would make access truly universal. At 65, people would transition into Medicare. Medicaid would be absorbed by the new plan. The highly trusted Medicare provider network could be used for the new plan.
Guarantee universal coverage. Individuals would be automatically enrolled in the new public plan, with no complicated procedures to follow. People would be allowed to opt-out and receive a tax credit to buy their own insurance policy if they choose.
Keep private insurance options. Individuals and employers will be able to purchase and negotiate supplemental coverage from private insurers to cover additional health needs. These supplementals could merge into the basic plan to make it easier for the user.
Employers would be encouraged to negotiate group rate supplemental plans that would merge with the basic governmental plan so that employees would be able to keep similar health care plans, many of which are very popular and important to American families.'>>>

I see nothing terribly wrong with that at all. I am in favour of the public option approach, same as Pete and Biden, etc.

Even getting that is going to be hella hard. The Rethugs and Big Pharma, Big Medical, and Big Insurance will fight it with everything they have at their disposal. I also fear many of our most centrist Democratic members of Congress, such as the Problem Solvers, the Blue Dogs, and many in the now 100 plus-strong New Democrat Coalition will also not sign onto it.
