Related: About this forumSanders' Supporters May Revolt at Convention and Damage Democratic Nominee
According to this article, Sanders supporters "say they are not afraid to stage another revolt at the 2020 Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee, even if doing so damages the partys nominee ahead of the general election contest against President Trump."
Some Bernie backers are livid, and they claim there is some type of sabotage afoot. For hardcore Sanders supporters, Mr. Bidens early domination of the race smacks of 2016, when the Democratic National Committee attempted to sabotage Mr. Sanders and clear the way to the nomination for Mrs. Clinton.
The mainstream media and the DNC are colluding against the American people. Thats what it feels like. Its the same thing all over again, said Laurie Cestnick, a Sanders supporter who founded Occupy DNC to protest the nomination of Mrs. Clinton at the partys 2016 convention in Philadelphia.
If they feel jilted again, Ms. Cestnick and fellow activists say they are not afraid to stage another revolt at the 2020 Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee, even if doing so damages the partys nominee ahead of the general election contest against President Trump.
Sanders backers already mistrust polls that show Mr. Biden with a commanding lead and the news organizations that have put a spotlight on the former VP since he joined the race April 25. People are becoming more upset and becoming more firm behind Bernie due to mainstream media not covering a lot of his events and the strong push for Biden, Ms. Cestnick said. Is 2016 going to happen all over again? It is sure feeling like it. But I tell you, they are going to see a fight like they have never seen before.

I regret that. These people are no different than the trumpetts-if our guy doesn't get nominated we'll pout and take our toys and go home. Actually it would be better if they DID just not vote rather than try and stage a revolt. Bernie didn't help when he refused to concede the nomination (Hillary conceded to Obama within a week) and sat there pouting at the convention. Between his supporters and that idiot Jill Stein, we lost. There's no sabotage afoot-there are just so many candidates to choose from. If they want to blame someone, blame Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren, they are probably the ones pulling votes from him.

My parents (in Michigan) voted for Bernie, my father regrets it (he really didn't like it when I told him Bernie said JFK "was nauseating", and JFK is my father's political idol of all time), but my mother has become entrenched and even bought the narrative that the DNC "rigged" it for Bernie (it was actually far closer to rigging in 2008, when the DNC would not count Michigan and Florida's votes because they moved their primary dates).
My first thought when I saw the headline was, AGAIN?

Sometimes the first vote will have several nominees. When the state delegations cast their votes, they may decide to nominate a 'favorite son' as a place holder or yield their spot to another state to see what happens down the line. If no one has the number of delegates needed, there will be another round of voting.
This can last a long time and makes the convention much more interesting.

Dishonorable and anti-democracy as most would agree this would be, and crazy as even imagining it could succeed was, it was Sanders' plan, which they supported. They didn't just imagine it.
Of course 3/4 of Sanders' primary voters were perfectly sane and DID vote for Hillary -- as they'd always intended. This person merely hoped she wasn't only speaking for that deplorable quarter like her who did vote Trump or third-party.
Of course, this apparently irredeemable minority of wingnuts is now promising various media to repeat 2016 all over again -- but louder. They're willing to follow Sanders where others won't go, though, and they of course don't speak for those normal Democrats who currently see him merely as one of their choices among Democrats.

Plus, they're probably far outnumbered by others disaffected into not voting by the same lies about Democratic Party corruption. Sanders didn't succeed in getting elected, but a whole lot of foolish people believed his message (augmented by Russia) that we were no better than the Republicans and thus that they had no one to believe in and vote for.

Even suggesting this sort of action is damaging to the race towards 2020. So either this is being presented by trolls or the Sanders' campaign doesn't have a speck of common sense.
That being said, MM may be absolutely right. The Senator from Vermont may be a non element long before the convention.

(58,785 posts)literally or just by voting out of spite for Trump (12%), not voting (2%) or going third party (the remainder). And Sanders really did violate our principles of democracy by asking the superdelegates to set aside the popular vote, in effect disenfranchising 16 million Democrats, to effectively appoint him the nominee.
So, "forever pariah." You bet. These overly ardent and under-principled whackadoodles are already finding themselves much more on their own this time, far less able to make trouble, and that's why they're angry so early. The Sanders legacy will be Trump and the Republican majorities, and his name in thick history books will be found in footnotes to Trump's election. (Just one!)

1. They are angry because their candidate lost a close contest.
2. They are angry because their historic opportunity is over.
3. They are angry about rumors that Obama may choose a woman other than Hillary Clinton as his running mate. (Insert - the eventual nominee picks someone other than Sanders).

I think Bernie will do everything in his power to elevate himself by pushing others down, said one aide to a Democratic senator.
A senior aide to a second Democratic senator said concerns about Sanders dividing the party next year are widely held, even though everyone in the Senate Democratic Conference is holding their tongue for fear of making things even worse.
Some Democrats have blamed Sanders in part for that outcome, arguing he stayed in the primary against Clinton too long and that he did not do enough to bring his supporters on board in November.

(145,344 posts)I saw what happened there up close. sanders sent one very weak text the Sunday night before the convention and then did little or nothing to control his delegates. It was nasty I was there when the sanders delegates booed Congressman John Lewis. I was warned about this stunt 30 minutes before it happened by the Clinton campaign whip. According to my whip, sanders was asked to stop this event and declined. If sanders is still viable come the Super Tuesday primaries, this incident may show up in some ads.
I was at the Texas delegation breakfast when a group of sanders delegates marched in and demanded that we condemn Clinton and change our votes to sanders.
sanders spoke to the Texas delegation the next morning and his speech was again solely about himself. There was a mini-riot due to his delegates the prior morning and the only thing that sanders talked about was himself. sanders did nothing to deal with the fact that his delegates were out of control and did nothing to try to help Hillary Clinton win the general election.
Finally a group of sanders delegates yelled at my daughter and called her the c-Word because she would not try to get me to change my vote. Again sanders was asked to tell his delegates to behave during the convention and sanders refused
Again, I saw first hand what happened in Philadelphia. I can see this happening but luckily sanders may have far fewer delegates due to the 15% rule and the number of candidates running

(24,415 posts)It seemed pretty simple to me. He just didn't win enough primary votes to become the nominee- and it had nothing to do with Superdelegates either. And if even if the DNC didn't have a fond opinion of him, well, they still let him run in their party when they didn't have to and they didn't have control over primary voters. I still encounter a lot of FB friends whom seriously think Bernie was robbed of the nomination in 2016 and still hate the DNC over it to this day. ...if Bernie was allowed to get the nomination in 2016 and won the election we would be in an altogether different place today...so now, it appears we may be on our way to nominating another kumbaya candidate,
" Sanders backers already mistrust polls that show Mr. Biden with a commanding lead and the news organizations that have put a spotlight on the former VP since he joined the race April 25. "
...the middle-class doesn't need 40 more years in the economic wilderness by those who created the problem in the first place...another free-trading kumbaya candidate won't cut it...people will stick with trump...they'll have no choice...
