Biden's World: Joe Flexing a Commanding Lead in New Poll

(snip.....)

In a poll conducted by Republican firm Echelon Insights, 1,005 Democrats and left-leaning Independents were asked about their preferred 2020 Democratic candidates. If the primary were to be held now, 38 percent of participants said they would vote for Biden, a result two points lower than Biden’s usual number of 40 percent, according to Vox’s Dylan Scott.

Bernie Sanders came in second at 16 percent, while Pete Buttigieg, Elizabeth Warren, Beto O’Rourke and Kamala Harris each pulled in about 5 percent. 16 percent were undecided, and no other candidate polled higher than 2 percent.

Biden’s line held up in head-to-head matchups, too:

In a matchup against Sanders, 39 percent of respondents were sold on Biden, with 22 percent saying they would “probably” vote for him. Certain Sanders voters came in at 14 percent with 10 percent likely to vote for the candidate from Vermont.

Against Harris, his numbers jump to 37 and 26 percent, respectively, while Harris’ dip to 9 and 11. Buttigieg takes a similar whooping with 8 and 9 percent, and Warren pulls in 7 and 12 percent in the definite and likely categories.

The message is terrible and it's meant to tamp down excitement for Biden - unless I'm reading it wrong. Which is possible. But could you read that first sentence again and tell me that it isn't calling Joe leftovers that need to be warmed up.

....that people see Biden as "safe" and in today's world "mediocre" isn't what it meant in the past.

I wish the author hadn't said it that way, but the rest of the article is glowing about Biden's poll results. I suppose I could have snipped that first seemingly derogatory sentence, which I seriously doubt wasn't intended the way it reads.

Thanks for pointing it out, though.

It just stuck me wrong. That's why I asked and didn't state that it was bad. It confused me a bit. Like I've been confused for almost 3 years now.

The Root is targeted at an African American audience. Perhaps this indicates that Biden needs to do a better job in regard to reaching the demographic.

Instead of criticizing the article, why not use it as a learning opportunity? I was just as surprised as you when I read it. But now I want to dig in and figure out why it was written in the way it was.

On edit:

I did learn something from some quick research! And it reflects positively on Biden:

From Essence - 5-2-19:

In a new poll out this week, 47 percent of Black women say they would back Joe Biden as the next president of the United States.

Global technology company Morning Consult conducted the Political Intelligence survey that interviewed 15,475 registered voters who said they would likely participate in their state’s Democratic primary or caucus. In addition to scoring big among Black women, the poll also found that the former Vice President was leading the crowded field of Democratic candidates with an overall 36% of the primary vote share. It’s a six-point gain since announcing his candidacy on April 25 and places him 14 points ahead of his closest opponent, Bernie Sanders.

It seems that the Root column is hybrid opinion/news piece. It is what it is. Good to know this stuff is out there. If I were on Biden's media team, I would offer up an interview to the columnist with a surrogate or someone else affiliated with the campaign. It wouldn't change this story, but it could influence the next one.

You're just trying to smear him.. but, it's not working.

Joe Biden was President Obama's Vice President for 8 years.. of course he's going to mention him.

President Obama thinks highly of Biden, too.

In A Surprise Send-Off, Obama Awards Biden Presidential Medal Of Freedom

snip//

Calling the former longtime Delaware senator "the best vice president America's ever had" and a "lion of American history," Obama gave his White House partner the surprise award in an emotional ceremony, initially billed as a farewell.

After extolling the job that Biden has done, Obama ended it with the unexpected news that he was giving the vice president the nation's highest civilian honor, with distinction — a designation most recently given to President Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II and Gen. Colin Powell.

"To know Joe Biden is to know love without pretense, service without self-regard, and to live life fully," Obama said.

Throughout the ceremony it was evident not just how close the two men were but how close their families and staffs had become, and Obama said his "family is honored to call ourselves honorary Bidens."

Transcript of President Obama's speech..

He fought to make college more affordable and revitalized American manufacturing, as the head of our middle-class taskforce. He suited up for Our Cancer Moonshot and giving hope to millions of Americans touched by this disease.

He led our efforts to combat gun violence. And he rooted out any possible misappropriations that might’ve occurred. And as a consequence, the recovery act worked as well as just about any large- scale stimulus project has ever worked in this country. He visited college after college and made friends with Lady Gaga…

Behind the scenes, Joe’s candid honest council has made me a better president and a better commander in chief. From the Situation Room, to our weekly lunches, to our huddles after everybody else has cleared out of the room, he’s been unafraid to give it to me straight, even if we disagree.

In fact, especially, when we disagree. And all of this makes, in my belief, the finest vice president we have ever seen. And I also think he has been a lion of American history.
The best part is, he’s no where close to finished. In the years ahead as a citizen, he will continue to build on that legacy internationally and domestically. He’s got a voice of vision and reason and optimism and love for people and we’re gonna need that — that spirit and that vision as we continue to try to make our world safer and to make sure that everybody’s got a fair shot in this country.

snip//

So all told, that’s a pretty remarkable legacy, an amazing career in public service. It is, as Joe once said, “a big deal.”

Much More..

His stature and record as Obama's strongly engaged VP are very real and a significant factor in his popularity. He entered the primary already a national leader and statesman.

Meanwhile, another giant factor, Obama, waits silently for the time when he will converge with our nominee to help beat the Republicans.
