Mayor Pete: If Trump Hadn't Dodged The Draft Maybe He'd Understand The Right Of NFL Players To Kneel

TMZ Sports reports:

Mayor Pete Buttigieg is going to bat for Colin Kaepernick … telling TMZ Sports he supports the QB’s right to take a knee during the national anthem — and he’s ripping Trump for going after the protesters.

“The way I feel about it is the flag that was on my shoulder when I served represented, among other things, our right to free speech,” Mayor Pete — a Navy veteran — told us in New York. “You don’t have to like it, but one of the reasons we serve was to defend that right, the right of peaceful protest and the idea that we can protest what is wrong with our country.”

“If the president had served,” Pete says. “Maybe he’d feel a little more strongly about some of those freedoms. And, I get that there’s a lot of strong opinions about this, but that’s part of why we served.”

for a niche into the African-American vote, I see. This might work, I don't think any other candidate (beyond the ones with 1-2 percent) has any military experience.

there were those who could figure a way out of Vietnam, and those who couldn't. Maybe some even believed the BS that we were fighting to win.

I salute Pete for going to Afghanistan, because that whole Iraq/Afghanistan thing is probably for nothing, too. As soon as we leave, some other Islamic force (it wasn't ISIS this time, but it could be the Taliban) will just break all the things we spent blood and treasure on, and drag the place back to the 7th Century again.

I sure wouldn't wanted to have switched places with Pete.

If Pete Buttigieg is going to have a shot at the nomination, he needs to do well in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina. There are mainly progressives in the first two states who would find his message appealing, and who would not have qualms about his orientation. But when the nation's eyes turn to SC, most of the Democratic electorate here is African-American, and a sizable proportion of them are churchgoers.

Joe Biden seems to have more of a lock on the African-American voter than even Sens. Harris or Booker. Somebody's going to have to break that lock, and I do give Pete credit for using his military service as a way to tie into the Kaepernick story, which resonates with black voters. It's an advantage he's got that no one else has.

It's savvy of him to do this, just as he has been savvy to get his name and face out there in as many ways as possible.

There are many things we know and indeed find obvious about tRump's failings of which there are many. But the wobbly low info middle doesn't follow the news and has only heard of a small part of the things we know. Citizen Vain is a full participant in pushing faked propaganda like that fake drunken video.

Democrats will make a lot of gains if we speak directly, frequently, and clearly like Pete, NancyHillary, et al about the Mango Mussolini.
