Workers invite a special guest to Walmart's annual meeting: Bernie Sanders

For years, Walmart workers have attended the company’s annual shareholders meeting to call for higher wages, better benefits and more predictable schedules.

This year they’ll have someone new delivering the message on their behalf: Sen. Bernie Sanders.

The presidential candidate, who has repeatedly called on Walmart to improve its working conditions, is heading to Bentonville, Arkansas, on June 5 to introduce a shareholders’ proposal that would give hourly Walmart workers a seat on the company’s board.

“These workers need and deserve a seat at the table,” Sanders, I-Vt., told The Washington Post. “If hourly workers at Walmart were well represented on its board, I doubt you would see the CEO of Walmart making over a thousand times more than its average worker.”

1. You can blame the Waltons, Wal-Mart heirs, for a lot of RepubliCON crap that comes out of Alabama

Like the Koch brothers, they fund everything RepubliCON. I do believe that they are very likely responsible for the draconian anti-choice legislation the Alabama government just spewed out. The Waltons pride themselves on being family oriented (you know religiously insane anti-woman) when in actuality they are totalitarian oriented. Nothing happens in Alabama that they don't know about. The Waltons are the capitalist kings of Alabama and control most of their politics.

When, if, democracy fails totally in the US, each capitalist rich family will own a territory and run it like a Lord of feudal England. The Waltons already have Alabama.

5. Funny. You have another thread saying he will "crash" the meeting.

In this one, you say he is “invited.”

Why two threads?

Which is it? A crash or an invite?

Bernie was invited to be a shareholder's proxy and yet you could bet your last dollar that the Walton's family, upper management and major stockholders view this is a crash.

In other words, that “crash” thread is opinion.

The first thread was actual fact. Fascinating.

10. The invite thread was news based and the crash thread
Tue May 21, 2019, 06:40 PM

was opinion with some additional information not in the other thread.

You don't need to bet your last dollar but I wouldn't wager that the Walton Family, most of Walmart upper management and major stockholders are pleased about Bernie being there.

They aren't giving him the "VIP" treatment reserved for celebrities and such when they show up, (not that Bernie is looking for it) so in that sense I believe this opinion piece is correct in viewing it as a "crash" most likely from Bernie and the workers' prime antagonists' perspective.
