How well would you imagine that would be received on, say ... Democratic Underground?

Please understand, I'm not 'taking a side here', I'm only trying to clarify what I believe is the correct 'interpretation'.

'who she is'.

To a wingnut, they'd love to hear a woman say "Well, I'm a Wife to a wonderful husband, and a Mother to 3 great kids, and a District Attorney". That would totally float their boat. Agreed?

Whereas your average liberal (myself included) would much prefer to hear it like:

"Well, I'm a District Attorney, and a Mother of 3 great kids, and a Wife to a Wonderful Husband". And frankly if that last bit wasn't there, we wouldn't bat an eye, would we?

Not a whole lot of liberals (myself included) especially 'like' to hear a woman put 'being a wife' at the top of the list. To the point that I'd say it's not unreasonable to suggest that's not 'politically correct' .. to do so. I mean, given that us liberals ARE pretty much the arbiters of PC, are we not?

So, what part of that would you disagree with, if any?

Because PC is right-wing spin designed to paint liberals as a monolithic group telling everyone how they're supposed to talk. You don't like it when a woman feels that being a wife is high on her list, but most people don't care, including liberals. This is War on Christmas type bullshit.

Mar 2019

But the PC thing? That is pretty much exactly what we do ... tell people how they're supposed to talk.

I can't really imagine denying that point, as a liberal. I own it. We DO do that.

IMHO, most liberals wouldn't be a big fan of one of our candidates describing 'who she is' by starting out with 'well, first off, I'm a wife'.

Now, it might not be a 'big deal' to the majority of us, but it's still not particularly 'what we want to hear'. Deny it all you want, and say it's 'oh, that's just you Mr. L', but you won't convince me I'm wrong on this point, no offense

Did she overstate the point? Yes, a bit. Is she probably vote-pandering, hoping to wrangle in a few right-leaning indy types? Almost certainly. But it's not an invalid point.

Again, IMHO.

Sanders and his wife understand image. Her actions at Burlington college, while not illegal, was a clear display of incompetence. Sanders has also made an endorsement in the past and immediately after the endorser wine she was appointed to a commission by him. Then there is the fact she is their tax preparer. Then we have lucrative family deals she has been involved with that have left direct family members with serious paychecks.

Is she suggesting many on the left take umbrage with women calling themselves wives ... because I don't think so?

56. Seems to me she knows as little about feminism as those attending CPAC

Feminism fights for equality, which means not only giving women the same rights, opportunities, and respect as men, but also against devaluing that which is seen as feminine and traditionally women's work. That means not only making it acceptable to have a woman President, but also up-valuing housework etc so that this incredible amount of labor isn't dismissed out of hand because it isn't paid. It's not equality if women can do "men's work". True equality won't be achieved until men can be homemakers without being disrespected, until boys can play house with dolls if they want to without fathers shrieking in fear, and what has been traditionally seen as feminine is valued as much as what has traditionally been seen as masculine.

Ms. Sanders reveals her ignorance with her comments, and she certainly shows she is not progressive.

57. The women's revolution was a good thing BUT ...

I suddenly remembered what this reminded me of!

Bernie, 2014:

"Now it is very unusual to find one person earning enough money to pay the bills. And the revolution ... the women's revolution, which was a good thing, many women want to be out in the workforce and that's great. But the reality is, it now takes two people incredibly long hours to earn enough income to pay the bills. Which raises other questions about child care and what happens to kids when they're not getting the attention they need."

That's a pretty big but. Please, spare me the 'splainin' about what Bernie really meant. Politicians talk for a living. Elizabeth Warren wrote a book about the two paycheck family, I'll listen to her.

“Learning what I didn’t know was hard. To see people suffering unnecessarily was just unfathomable.” Jane Sanders when aske what the most difficult part of the 2016 Presidential campaign was. People don’t understand how sheltered they are. Sanders has been brilliant at promoting his image.
