Sen. Bernie Sanders on Tuesday delivered a rousing speech to a high-decibel crowd of 3,200 at the Canyon Springs High School in North Las Vegas. The turnout in southern Nevada surpassed the 2,000 who showed up the night before in Reno.
Sanders called for closing tax loopholes that let the wealthy and profitable corporations avoid taxes. He said its time to break up the biggest banks that are too big to fail. He pressed for raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour. He said a Medicare-for-all, single-payer health care system would provide better care for more people at less cost.
He demanded pay equity for women, an overhaul of the criminal justice system, universal voter registration for everyone 18 and older and free tuition at public colleges and universities.
The rally was the last stop at the end of a day in Las Vegas which included a meeting with veterans, a stop at an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union hall, and a Womens Leaders Lunch.
At the home of Erin Bilbray, Sanders won the endorsement of the Democratic National Committee superdelegate. She praised his fight against the corrupting influence of dark money in politics that she said poses the biggest threat to American democracy.
Sen. Bernie Sanders has denounced all super PACs and will continue to fight for the future of the middle class, Bilbray said. As a mother of two young daughters, their future is my priority, which is why I am endorsing Bernie Sanders as the Democratic nominee for president of the United States.
