When I worked for $4 an hour at Mcdonalds as a teenager they said increasing minimum wage by $.25 would raise the price of a meal from $5 to $15.

20+ years later and minimum wage is nearly double, gas and shipping prices are double or even triple, etc etc etc.....

and a meal at McDonalds still costs about $5.

an hour would break them. So they raised all prices on all sandwiches, drinks, and fries about 10 cents each and made a killing. Those of us on the new minimum wage still nearly starved. I think I came out ahead about $5.00 every paycheck or $10.00 per month.

For two decades, liberals have been citing a famous study by David Card and Alan Krueger showing that a 1992 increase in New Jersey's minimum wage didn't cost jobs in the fast food industry....But Alan Krueger, the co-author of that famous fast food employment study and a former adviser to the Obama administration..... supports Hillary Clinton's plan to raise the minimum wage to $12 per hour. But in a New York Times op-ed last month, he argued that "a $15-an-hour national minimum wage would put us in uncharted waters, and risk undesirable and unintended consequences."

of helping the lowest wage workers out financially.

Every single time that the minimum wage actually gets increased we hear calls of the end of our economy by people just like Alan Krueger and the only thing that happens is the people at the bottom get a little bit more and their employers make far more.

The sky will fall if we pay people more is complete bullshit. It has been proven over and over and over again throughout history.

... who pulls in $250,000. to speak for an hour or so I can see why she thinks so... I mean, at $12./hr someone would have to work roughly ten years to earn her day's pay... If someone is lucky enough to stay healthy for a fifty-year work history and average $12/hr they could make as much as commoner hrc gets for five of her speeches...

It's no wonder she's smiling so much this time around... !

hell Alex Jones even has it (yikes infowars) at $21.72 as where it should be. raising the $15 should coincide with letting Bush's TEMPORARY tax cuts expire as well. ie if the price of a movie ticket has doubled since 1999 why hasn't the min wage??

but you would be wrong. Democrats start out by declaring what they would settle for, and then wind up settling for much less.

For example, a few years ago a Democratic president offered to cut social security benefits as part of a "grand bargain" with the Republicans.

Don't think this president ever planned much to "negotiate" the role the insurance company LEECHES would have in health care reform.

He's worked a LOT harder negotiating what corporate people want for free trade in TPP, etc. though. That speaks to where some of the "Democrats" of today are doing or not doing for us.

with the rapidly increasing costs of healthcare, rents, products and services and the diminishing social safety net. Right wingers have always claimed that raising the min. wage will ruin them. It's bull like the cries that businesses would fold up and die without exploiting and abusing children and women workers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
