#notmyabuela #hispandering

There is a post in GD: Primaries regarding this and I was wondering what you guys/gals think. Most in that thread don't seem to realize how offensive what Hillary said was to some in the Latino community. Her post said: “7 things Hillary Clinton has in common with your abuela,”. Frankly I find some of the responses either naive or arrogant.

Then on twitter there are the hashtags that I posted above. Read the comments. Many are not impressed with this and feel pandered to and slighted. Then they post stories about their own grandmothers and where they came from.

Here is one article on it.

edit - I realized AFTER the fact that there's not enough (or any) Bernie in here so just check out #notmyabuela Bernie . Many Latinos are now looking at him more closely.

I found it offensive and I'm not Hispanic.

Hillary trying to tell anyone below the .1% mark that she is just like them I find offensive. She has never struggled to find her next meal. Never once. She has never had to do any of the really hard work so many have just to scrape by.

It is worst then panderining. It feeds into the perception that Clinton just wants to be the first woman president and do whatever she can to get there. Trying to put herself on the same level as women who have risked life and limb to try to provide their children and grandchildren with a better life is tone-deaf at best.

I'm not latina so I wanted to see/hear what they were saying. They are not naive, stupid, uneducated and do not want to be pandered to. The reason that I brought up those words is because that is what I would think that Hillary thinks of me if I were latina. But let's hear them speak:

Why Hillary Clinton is not like your grandmother!
