Read Bernie Sanderss populist, policy-heavy speech kicking off his campaign
On Tuesday afternoon, Sen. Bernie Sanders gave a rousing speech kicking off his campaign in his home state of Vermont.
"This campaign," Sanders said, "is not about Bernie Sanders. It is not about Hillary Clinton. It is not about Jeb Bush or anyone else. This campaign is about the needs of the American people, and the ideas and proposals that effectively address those needs." Sanders went on to deliver a surprisingly policy-heavy speech. Here are his prepared remarks, minus the thank-yous and glad-to-be-heres at the beginning. On Tuesday afternoon, Sen. Today, we stand here and say loudly and clearly that; "Enough is enough. This great nation and its government belong to all of the people, and not to a handful of billionaires, their Super-PACs and their lobbyists."

and I wish all the Clinton supporters would sit down and read it word for word. And think. Contemplate. Ponder. Then think some more.
Then review all of Clinton's stances and compare it with Bernie....

(9,126 posts)I just said in another thread that Sanders posters aren't attacking HRC posters in general and now I read your post. Could you edit it back a bit? The goal here isn't to beat down Clinton supporters, the goal is to help the American people to learn about Bernie Sanders and hopefully vote for him. We don't need to the infighting or backbiting to do that because Bernie is a fantastic candidate and we don't need to tear anyone down to build him up. I'm just asking, not demanding, because it will make things easier around here. I wouldn't take too kindly to being told to shut up. Just a request.

(376 posts)Much better wording and the additional words aren't necessary and was offensive, indeed.
I've already had two posts hidden within 24 hours, which gave me pause and wondered if I am going too far... and now need to tone it down quite a bit.

(9,126 posts)In your honor I just donated $10 to Bernie and another 10 for his great speech. Small steps will get us there.

(62,325 posts)positive and genuinely enthusiastic to have someone to vote FOR. That enthusiasm is catching. I think that Bernie is going to go after the Independent vote which is the biggest voting bloc in the country right now. And I think he'll get it. I also think he is going to be making a huge effort to go after non-voters, people who have lost all hope and just opted out of the entire system.
THAT is where he will succeed imo.
I've seen it already in comments all over the internet once people listen to him speak.
So we don't have to worry about any other candidate imo.
Thanks for editing your post, btw.

(62,325 posts)about Bernie but for a long time believed that voting was a waste of time as politicians do not care about the people. She has listened to Bernie talk, and I made sure to let her know 'he isn't just talking, he ACTS on what he says, votes to back up his words. She applauded while listening to him today.
Now all I have to do is get her to register as a Dem!

(2,760 posts)That's the demographic that will push Bernie over the top. We have to reach out to everyone. It is doable!

(18,791 posts)Won't it be interesting to see what happens when the fists really start flying...but how can he be attacked for speaking such truth.
Well, I guess The Banksters and the KKKoch Heads can try to slime him...I say the truth will prevail.

(62,325 posts)smear him with in case he begins to look like a real threat. In fact I believe they do see him as a threat and we have been seeing things like 'he can't win' etc. He's 'too old' (not a good idea since he and Hillary are both around the same age, she will be 70 I believe in 2016).

(62,325 posts)villain when they set their minds to it.
Maybe we need to preempt them.
In a way I hope they continue to discount his chances until so many people already know him anything they try to do will fall on deaf ears.

(2,760 posts)from simply saying that it should be about issues and not the people. I firmly believe in that.

(57,936 posts)But I do think that all of us should compare the stances on the issues of all candidates.
I agree with Bernie on every statement he made in his speech today. Wonderful speech.
