Bernie’s so called “black-voter” problem

As a black woman myself - and do not pretend to speak for black Democrats - I’m believing more and more that the so called “black-voter” problem of Bernie is smoke and mirrors. All of the black folks I know, are voting for Sanders. The sheeple will continue to be sheeple, regardless of race.

Here a some things I've been contemplating lately about this issue.

1/ A lot of the assumptions are based on outdated data. Outreach efforts are underway, and they are helping, since the main issue in the African American community, especially in the South, remains name recognition and awareness. That is why people like Nina Turner and Killer Mike who joined the campaign- help spread the word about Bernie. As soon as people learn what he stands for, they will vote for him. I know the campaign is putting a lot of work into outreach. It is awhile longer until the primary there, so hopefully what they can do will be enough.

2/ The black people who are supporting Hillary aren't necessarily inclined to vote for her in the primaries but rather in the general election. Black Hillary supporters they aren't as incentivized to vote in the primaries (or historically midterms) but are very much so in the presidential general election. They aren’t particularly excited about her. A lot of these lower and lower to mid middle class blacks who are voting for her.

3/ If Bernie wins Iowa and New Hampshire, that will help because the media will have to cover that. No more Bernie black-out then. And everyone loves a winner. So let's see where Bernie is then.

4/ If Bernie wins the nomination, black voters will rally behind him. The way minorities get political protection in our democracy is by making allies and being loyal. White liberals can jump, without repercussion, from one candidate to another. Minorities need stable alliances. and other minority voters are Democrats first and foremost, because the Republican Party has chosen, since Nixon, to be the voice of white fear and anger. They aren't necessarily *against* Bernie but rather pro democratic. This means that they will vote the democratic candidate whoever wins the nomination.

Please share this video as much as possible.

#2 - Good point regarding voter turnout in primary vs general, I hadn't thought much about those who may be more inclined to vote in one or the other.

#3 - Bernie could win both early primary states in a landslide, and at this point I wouldn't be surprised if the media totally changes the subject.

But if Sanders wins in Iowa and the media yawns, then they'll really be painting themselves into a corner.

And that corner will keep getting smaller and smaller.

of friends as well as what I have noticed throughout the campaign is that, yes, black people do like Bernie's policies if they actually get a chance to hear about them. I am doing my part to make sure word gets out. Thanks for posting this vid. I will help spread it far and wide!

up in places like the streets of Baltimore (where he surveyed the result of capital flight and the deterioration of living conditions there), doing face-to-face interaction with ordinary Black people around the country, etc., I think he can put a serious dent in the advantage Hillary currently has within the Black community.

I've argued before with another DU poster that Hillary's main advantage with Black voters is name recognition, not her specific policies (and this idea was of course dismissed). I found Hillary's response to the issue of Black Lives Matter at the Saturday debate very revealing because you could tell she didn't have a canned answer prepared for it like she seemed to have for other issues. She was very deliberate, very selective of her words, and very forced. Bernie, on the other hand, spoke freely and authoritatively because the issue of Black people and police brutality/mass incarceration is not something he has to force and weigh his words with.

I believe the MSM has been told to ignore Bernie at all costs. To lie about him at every angle. To control your thought processes.

I believe that the current polls are all a lie. His online presence is deafening.

I believe that although Bernie's support from black people could be better, it's due to lack of exposure. I also think it's probably higher than most people think. Bernie is creating that exposure daily. Did anyone watch his interview with Killer Mike. It was phenomenal!!! I never heard anything on MSM about it.

MSM has been told to shut this down. It's quite obvious and I'm sick of the corruption.

I'm sick of being lied to by MSM, the 1%, and all their supporters. Bernie supports EVERYONE. It's not about him. It's about US.

It's time for a political revolution.

assure them that they're her one and only, that THOSE other groups have it out for them--and all the while they're popping the champagne cork with outsourcers/CCA/The Family/Wall Street: it's basic Emanuelist strategy; they rely on 1. being the candidate for everyone and 2. pretending there's no other candidate--even '08 she lost only because there was another Establishment-approved candidate, with plenty of charisma

so you have the endless FUD and crude baiting because they weren't expecting a primary campaign--it was just a GE that went on a few months longer, focusing on the Clown Car; they had this sewn up: there wasn't supposed to BE a challenge

so when she asks "Who else ya gonna vote for?" people are starting to *look*

On fire with Bernie. Enough is enough. Fired up by Dr. Cornel West, who spoke about integrity and Bernie as the real thing. And as his friend said, black people have to stop sleep walking under Neo-Liberals. Fired up by Ohio State Senator Nina Turner. Disillusioned by Hillary's vote of confidence in Rahm Emanuel the mayor that Chicago no longer wants. Bernie can win with us. Don't believe the corporate media hype. They are paid by SuperPacs and billionaire-milionaire candidates to slant the news and shutdown Bernie. Won't work. #feelthebern #bernie2016
