Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumGot two more people to agree to register Dem and vote for Bernie this morning.
These were low information, independent non-voters who don't like President Obama or Secretary Clinton, yet don't like republicans either.
The largest voting bloc in my red state is independent voters. These are people who are sick of the same old BS year after year, and who resonate with Bernie, and the type of change Bernie would bring to the table. I am framing my discussion in clear simple terms as a subversive movement that is a chance for them to join in and subvert the system that has alienated them from the process.
Basically, my message is this:
"We're all getting together and fucking the fucking fuckers who are fucking us. C'mon and join in the fun!" Not necessarily in those exact words.
Tomorrow, I am going to pick up a pile of voter registration forms from the county, and I am going to register Democratic voters to all vote for Bernie. I am going to register them as vote by mail voters.
One thing I've found with these types of voters is that most of them will vote if you make voting as simple as possible for them. My goal is to register a minimum of 100 voters who will register as Dems and vote for Bernie in the Democratic primary.

(23,867 posts)I had to put a stop payment on my donation because it was going to his senate campaign, and I want to put it towards his presidential campaign, and the lady I was talking with hadn't heard of him, and could tell from my enthusiasm that this was someone to look into. She wrote it down, so I know she'll do it.
I am too excited for my own good.
Good for you!

(9,126 posts)I think it should be a sticky.
We have to reach out, especially to all the young voters who are eager to vote for Bernie but may not know about the process, that they must be registered Democrats to vote for him in the primary. We have to get the word out on this including places like Buzzfeed and Reddit where is he getting a lot of positive comments. I know quite a few people who have switched from Dem to Independent so I will be talking to them.
If your state is a caucus state, then it is very important for people to participate. Candidate Obama went a loooooooooong way with the caucuses and Hillary won't forget. Often she won the primary but he won the caucus so he got a good chunk of delegates. It's bloody important that Bernie supporters don't get trampled in the caucuses.
Here is some caucus information with dates

And for expats (soon to be me) living abroad, here is one for us:
Tuesday 1 March - Tuesday 8 March 2016: Global Presidential Primary. 12 of the 17 delegate votes to the Democratic National Convention are pledged to presidential contenders based on the results of the voting in today's Democrats Abroad Presidential Primary. Participants may vote by fax, email, in person, or postal mail. A mandatory 15 percent threshold is required in order for a presidential contender to be allocated National Convention delegates.
I believe that if Bernie can win the primary, he can win the general. I am saying that all over this board so it sticks in people's heads. I believe this for three reasons.
1) The Electoral College - it is now almost statistically impossible for Republicans to win a national presidential election.
2) Jeb Bush will be the Republican nominee (you can take that to the bank). Conservatives hate him and moderates loathe him. He's come out as a raging homophobe, pro-life, thieving, lying Bush baby already and it hasn't even started. You'd have to be a nut job to vote for the guy and I think there are some (and see in comments already) that might cross over and vote for the socialist. The libertarians who went for Rmoney last time are already breaking for Bernie.
3) The media is saying it's not likely that Democrats can win a third or even a fourth term. That unrest leads to a switch no matter what. But I think people unconsciously see Clinton as Obama's third term but not Bernie. That is incredibly powerful and the best counter to the "he can't beat Bush in the general but Clinton can" argument.
I know there are many more reasons why Bernie is a fantastic candidate, not the least of which is his rock-solid intergrity.

(5,751 posts)That's the most fun about voting for Bernie. Let the status quo beware. The villagers are at the gates - with pitchforks and torches!
