Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumA 700,000-member union just threw their support behind Sanders.
On Wednesday night, Bernie Sanders won the support of the Communications Workers of America (CWA) one of the largest unions in the US. The union will officially throw their weight behind Sanders at an 11 a.m. press conference Thursday morning.
The announcement isnt entirely unexpected, given CWA leaderships support of the Sanders campaign. Former CWA president Larry Cohen serves as Sanders labor adviser, joining the campaign after stepping down from the CWA this summer. Sanders also spoke to a group of striking Verizon workers in October, who were affiliated with the CWA.
Sanders is one of the most outspoken advocates for organized labor, having introduced a bill this fall to make it easier for workers to unionize in their workplaces. In a public statement, Sanders said higher unionization rates were necessary to correct the widening income inequality separating Americas wealthiest from the rest of the working class.

(13,877 posts)Management has gone full Corporate. I hope their members think for themselves. If they do, they will see that Bernie has always had their backs.

(21,210 posts)I remember reading and posting about the AFL-CIO website where the selected votes and candidates were slanted and directed.
If the page was meant to inform it did a poor job.
Probably in my old journal somewhere, it was rather obvious which is why I posted about it.

(13,877 posts)I didn't hear about any democratic/vote from the members...seems there were quite a few upset. But maybe they did. Still, boggles my mind why union management votes against their worker's interests, or so it seems.

(26,621 posts)I said,, glad your union endorsed Bernie. He said, I don't care who they endorse, everyone I know is a Bernie supporter whether the union endorsed him or not.

(35,675 posts)My teacher's union supported Hillary Clinton. Seeing how she 'n Randi are BFFs, no surprise.
However, only a week after the endorsement, I was at a union executive board meeting. The president remarked that there were Hillary support materials to pick up and take home, post signs, hand out literature, etc.
Except they all sat there after the meeting was over, and no one picked them up.
The only bad thing about this story is that at least several of the members are right-wingy types. I wish there were more for Bernie, but out of five members on the executive committee, I might be the only one. Two might be Hillary-oriented (and I say "might" and the others might even go for Trump. I know, ridiculous in a blue state.
Regardless, the point is that members do what they're gonna' do, regardless of an endorsement, if they have strong feelings about the candidate and if they are knowledgeable and informed.

I came across this page when looking back on the votes for the China Trade bill in 2000. What is interesting is how the page includes information on the China Trade bill for certain candidates and excludes vote information for other candidates. I would assume this page is compiled for the benefit of their members so why would they be selective on the voting records of the candidates? Does anyone else find this strange?
No mention of the votes that the Dem candidates cast for this bill

(8,879 posts)numbers listed as 700,000, but the title page, blurb, panel, (whatever you call it) the thing 100% of people see before jumping to the story, says Bernie won his biggest endorsement yet, the 700-member strong union,
Fucking shenanigans. This after mixing up his and Hillary's numbers by the other news leader.
Getting kind of pissed about it.
