Hillary has had 113 minutes of network news coverage, Bernie 10.

I saw this on Reddit. Thought the group would like confirmation of what we already know to be true.

Seems legit.

So far Hillary Clinton has had 113 minutes of pre-election network news coverage. Bernie Sanders has only had 10 -- less than a fifth of Joe Biden (56 minutes), who didn't even run.

The data is taken from the Tyndall report http://tyndallreport.com/ , which "tracks the airtime that the various flagship news programs on NBC, CBS and ABC dedicate to a variety of stories".

Also, Donald Trump has had more coverage than the entire Democratic field combined. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2015/12/07/donald-trump-has-gotten-more-nightly-network-news-coverage-than-the-entire-democratic-field-combined/

Republican frontrunner Donald Trump, unsurprisingly, is the most-covered candidate in the race. In fact, he alone has gotten more airtime (234 minutes) than the entire Democratic field (226 minutes).

It's only because he's such an extraordinary candidate, who's passionate about informing
the public how fucked we are, and why, and by whom, and what to do about it; and voters
LOVE him ... if they ever get a chance to hear him very much.

The report found, for instance, that the Republican primary race has received more than twice as much coverage as the Democratic contest. “Besides the fact that there are many more Republican candidates than Democratic ones, the GOP debates have made much more news than the Democrats’ (debates),” Tyndall noted.

Just as DWS intended.

Why doesn't this still apply?

The equal-time rule specifies that U.S. radio and television broadcast stations must provide an equivalent opportunity to any opposing political candidates who request it. This means, for example, that if a station gives one free minute to a candidate in prime time, it must do the same for another candidate who requests it. The equal-time rule was created because the FCC thought the stations could easily manipulate the outcome of elections by presenting just one point of view, and excluding other candidates. It should not be confused with the now-defunct Fairness Doctrine, which dealt with presenting balanced points of view on matters of public importance.

Reagan Admin allowed this to happen in 1987.

What a travesty. Reagan the foul, fetid gift, that just keeps on giving.

Is that the Fairness Doctrine is separate (although related) from the equal time requirements.

So why can't major candidates who are majorly slighted of prime time appeal to the equal time
provisions, and get it remedied?

Thankfully, Bernie OWNS the Internet, so DWS can go scratch! She's going doooown!

That is probably the only reason she polls ahead. Given a fair, level playing field she would be toast.
