Bernie Defends Gay Soldiers v. Rep. Duke Cunningham- 'homos' & 'socialist' Pat Schroeder

At a House Congressional committee session in 1995 Rep. Bernie Sanders takes down Rep. Duke Cunningham (R-CA) for his use of 'homos in the military' to describe the many dedicated gay men & women who serve in our armed forces. Cunningham told Rep. Patricia Schroeder (D-CO) "sit down you socialist!", then said to Bernie, "liberals like you".

On Nov. 8, 2005 Cunningham resigned from the House, after pleading guilty to federal charges of conspiracy to commit bribery, fraud and tax evasion involving defense contracts. He was ordered to pay $1.8 mill in restitution and was sentenced to 8 years in prison. http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/11/28/cunningham/

Bravo to Bernie and great Pat Schroeder for handling this right wing creep, bigot and convicted criminal. I hadn't seen this session and found Bernie's response courageous and righteous, true to his character as a fighter for justice for all. Give 'em hell Bernie!

the simple fact of his discernment of Cunningham's character and the need to call out his biases, a full decade before the world found Cunningham to be one of the most corrupt members of Congress in the history of the Congress. Bernie knows what he's dealing with. This is the same set of skills that allowed him to vote against Bush's war when some others were sure Bush was worthy of trust.

and inspiring to see. I've long admired Bernie's sharp, quick mind, deep thinking, judgment and courage as a fighter. He's remarkable in many ways yet also unassuming. My younger brother disliked Clinton early on before he was president and now I know why. I wish he was here to see Bernie and the movement rising from his campaign.

afraid of going after those crooks, but not Bernie.

Anyone remember the Abramof Affairs? They literally got away with murder, But at least a few of them, like Cunningham, did end up serving time.

Bernie knows what's going on, knew back then.

We NEED him in he WH and we need to start cleaning out all the Corporate bought members of Congress at the same time.
