Hitler Wasn't Inevitable - or why to vote for Bernie

It may not be enough, but in my mind it is worth a shot.

Today a great article came up in Jacobin (leftist theory publication which I read regularly) about the rise of Hitler in Germany. It could've gone different ways but we know what ended up happening. This article summarizes the attempts social democrats and some communists made in Germany as the economy failed. Bernie is making the same kind of attempt today (and I'm sure he sees these parallels as well). Let's hope he is more successful.

This is a link to excerpts I've posted in the Socialist Progressives group - http://www.democraticunderground.com/102410448

I am laying out precisely how democratic socialists tried to defeat Hitler - and how we should try to defeat Trump.

What in this could possibly be offensive to a non-fascist?

Unless of course the alerter is fascist and supports Trump.

And I will edit this to add: this is not a post to compare Hitler to Hillary. I don't hate her and won't get into posting wars with her supporters. I simply don't think her economic policies are strong enough to stem the tide. That's an opinion and should be respected during the primaries.

someone apparently thought the comparison was to hillary, not trump. i doubt anyone here would have alerted if they had gotten the gist of your post and the trump angle.

My argument is that Bernie is the stronger candidate to affect economics and therefore keep this country from going down the fascist route. My allies on the far left would laugh at me for being way too naive. And they may be correct. But I don't think the alert is coming from those folks. It is coming from people supporting a weak candidate (and they are feeling threatened).

Of course they're going to take every opportunity to find offense.

Like I've said, it's the kid on the playground who will take cheap shots (verbally or even physically) at you, then as soon as you turn to them, they'll be doubled over on the ground (as long as they know they're within earshot of a teacher).

Go read the article.

I'm no expert on The Rise and Fall...but it's just creepy to be reminded of various things that happened.

And as I posted in the other group...the Tea Party, Trump/Walker types, the Bankster and Billionaire Employer Class, etc...

Seems like there are so many parallels.

it was just an interesting article, I thought, pointing out the economic conditions between then and now. Moreover, the point that it can go in many directions. Do we want to push for something better or stick with the status quo (which so far is killing us)?
