Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumGonna pat myself on the back (and maybe get others thinking?)
So, Saturday, I had to get medical care. (No worries; it needed immediate attention, but was simple to treat and I am much better.)
It being Saturday and this being Boston, that meant going to the hospital. I took a cab. On the way back, I had the presence of mind to tip the cab driver more than 100% of the fare. (Not as big a deal as it sounds. The fare was not much.)
And, as I handed him the money, I said "Keep the change and please consider voting for Senator Sanders in the Democratic primary." He looked as stunned as he could look. Don't know if it did any good, but I bet he tells the story to someone else.
The reason I pat myself on the back is, I don't think many people going to the drug store from the hospital would have the presence of mind to squeeze in a bit of campaigning.
Where or how have you sneaked in, or squeezed in, a plug for Senator Bernie Sanders?

(45,251 posts)If I had really been on my game, I would have thought to take some leaflets with me and passed them out while I waited for treatment!

(10,237 posts)I think this works because most Bernie supporters I have seen don't look like rich pukes trying to buy votes .We can serve by examples about caring for other humans not just the 1% .I would be very surprized if Hillary backers tip as much as Bernie supporters,it can't be proved but I would bet on it .

(2,603 posts)Sometimes I just go through one for a cup of coffee just to let the person at the window know Bernie is fighting for $15/hr.
I've yet to have one of the workers give me an attitude and almost all of them show enthusiasm.

(45,251 posts)nice perks. However the wages stink. I keep meaning to drop $15 bucks in the top jar there, with a note paper clipped to it.

(2,603 posts)Hell I can't even afford to stop there very often to begin with.
However, I've taken to keeping a stack of fliers in my car for those drive thru moments.
Thanks for your effort Merrily.

(45,251 posts)I wish you could afford it, too--and so much more.
I occasionally buy beans there when I run out of Peets. I always make my own coffee. The beans are pricey, but they are my treat to myself. I don't have any other habits that cost.

(15,480 posts)He's primarily a professional musician (just got back from a European tour), who supplements his income with piano tuning.
After he finished tuning my piano, I was walking him out to his car, and pointed to the Bernie Sanders sticker on my car, and said I hoped he would consider voting for Bernie Sanders. He got a huge smile on his face and said, yeah, I've been reading great things about him. I really like him! Interestingly, this musician is a long time friend and neighbor of the head of our state democratic committee.

(45,251 posts)If you have his email address, you might send him some links. The Bernie Group is a good place for him to get his questions and concerns addressed, too! (Tell him to stay out of GD , though, LOL).
Inasmuch as he is a musician, he might be a union man, too.

(3,894 posts)of course has wonderful Bernie videos. If he's a kid, he may be more into the visual way of learning.
This is amazing how you Berners are reaching out. I'm just too introverted, I'm afraid.

(1,005 posts)I had just packed our stuff in our Bernie tote bags and noticed the man behind us in line was eyeing them curiously.
The checker ran his few items across the scanner and asked if he had a club card. He said no, he doesn't usually shop there so my wife got her card out of her wallet and handed it to the checker with a big smile the man's direction. He looked stunned and said thanks. It saved him just 3 bucks and we said you're welcome but as we were leaving made sure he saw the logo on our Bernie's tote bags again.
Granted, it wasn't much (and we get the points) but you gotta take your opportunities when presented.

(99,659 posts)The receptionist asked about Bernie. We had a nice conversation. I showed her the photos of the two Bernie events I've been to and me in the photo with Bernie. She and her husband moved here from Iowa. I had to explain she has to go to the caucus March 5th for Bernie, a ballot in the May primary election won't count. And I told her I have the water bottle.
