Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumAnother thread saying how much I appreciate each and every one of you Berners.
I am so sorry to keep repeating myself on this, but I can't help it.
First, thank you to the hosts. They do a fantastic job. I have seen mindless, knee-jerk snark about how many people they block. However, the high number of posters and posters in this group creates odds that stuff happens that they have to address. Second, the number of blocks reflects the number of people who post in this group against the group's purpose and/or violate the group's SO.P. It says nothing about the hosts, except that they are sacrificially diligent.
No one blames or mocks MIRT for how many "name removeds" show up on the board. We THANK them for doing their job for free against an onslaught of trolling posts. Same for the hosts of this group. They can't control the behavior of those who come to this group for the wrong reasons. They can only control their own behavior--which they do beautifully and for our benefit and for free. So, here's a huge thank you to each and every past, current and future host of this group, now: Autumn, L0oniX, Puglover, smokey nj, TM99, marym625, woo me with science, hootinholler, wakemeupwhenitsover and the incredible spirit and inspiration of the sorely missed Jackpine Radical.
Second, thank you to the truly awesome and amazing Omaha Steve for the amazing job he has done in setting up the DU Act Blue account and keeping us informed about its progress, which gently encourages us to donate again. (Minimimum donation is only $1, ya know!)
At this time, the DU account is not far from $20K. That does not represent all the donations from this group to Sanders, but it is a figure few of us could have written a check for on our own--or even collectively without Omaha Steve's great work. Again, the link to donate via the DU account OS set up for you/us is https://secure.actblue.com/contribute/page/duforbernie.
Shameless begging: All the things you read in media and elsewhere on this board show how much Bernie needs donations from people like you/us. You already know what a Bernie Presidency would mean to you, your loved ones and your fellow Americans. So please thank OS and Bernie by using that link to donate as much as you can, whenever you can, even if you have set up a recurring donation.
Last, but not least, I thank each and every (authentic) supporter of Bernie who has ever posted in this group, especially those to whom I have ever been cranky or abrupt. This group has made this board tolerable for me. It has made this campaign season more fun for me and kept me enthusiastic and encouraged.
You're smart; you're funny; and you're endearing. You're my DU family members and I mean that in the best possible way. I am so proud of you and I love you, each and all.

(2,760 posts)This group gives us all lots of encouragement and reminds us of the work we have ahead.
I can't give through the ActBlue account because I don't use credit cards. I send Bernie as much as I can and just mailed him a check this week. I'm hoping the Democrats Abroad group here in Chiang Mai gets active this month and we can start registering voters like we do every election cycle. Our overseas votes do count and can make a difference.
This is our last chance to do the right thing for the country. Let's hope we don't blow it.

(45,251 posts)Sometimes, people get an email from Bernie's campaign and click on the link in the email, which does not, of course, go to the DU account.
The real goals are to get money to Bernie, and to give OS credit for his great job. The very last thing I want to do is make anyone feel guilty about sending Bernie a donation any way they send it.
Thank you do much for your kind words.

(32,070 posts)every day I look at the greatest threads, the socialist group where I host, and this group for the positive threads. I know the established dems are against us, but there are so many good folks in this group (and around the country) pulling for Bernie. It makes me feel like maybe he could really be the nominee if we all keep working hard.

(45,251 posts)My getting compliments as a result of starting this thread never entered my mind when I was typing this post, but that is what has been happening.
It's lovely, in one way, but not what I intended. I hope people will start complimenting the hosts, OS and each other.
BTW, you don't need to drive. You maybe a Lexus latte liberal, but I am a limousine latte liberal. I'll send my driver for you.

(559 posts)I'm 74 and have never before felt the urgency to contribute to a campaign like I do this time. I'm sure I won't get anywhere near the 2700 dollar limit, but I am going to continue donating till it hurts.

(9,497 posts)Sorry for being so thick about how to post here, awhile back.
I love how we keep our focus on the candidate and the issues!
And I feel like I know a lot of you.

(62,325 posts)intelligent, principled, I know we are not supposed to be 'principled' lol!
Omaha Steve has been fantastic. And DU Bernie supporters have outdone themselves in donating to Bernie's campaign.
I will continue to do so and I'm sure so will everyone else because you are right, it is so important to end the current corrupt system we are living under and start electing people who are for the PEOPLE.

(45,251 posts)and then we give more as and when we have extra or are extra moved (the smear, the debate schedule, the Birthday Bomb etc.).
I have always believed that lacking principles or being unprincipled was very wrong and whatever I have seen on DU has only reinforced that - on steroids.

(23,664 posts)Bernie Sanders saved me from giving up hope entirely. I'd become so cynical after the events of the last 25 years or so, that I really didn't believe things would ever change.
I'm five days older than Sen. Sanders, so I'm old enough to remember the last time the party tried to force us to accept a candidate we didn't want. That was 1968 and we all know what happened.
Anyway I'm enthused again, and a lot of it is because of this group right here. So I can only echo everything you posted here and hope that Bernie with our help can pull it off and turn things around for my great grandkids.
BTW, would you let my wife and kids know I'm smart funny and endearing - they think I'm a cantankerous old fart.

(45,251 posts)Not that it matters, but Humphrey probably would have been a decent President. I think he may have suffered wrongly from having been Johnson's VP. But, that is not my main point.
The lesson Democrats were supposed to draw from 1968 was probably, "Take the Party's pick because LOTE."
The lesson Democrats were supposed to draw from 1972 was "Don't run a liberal."
The lesson Democrats were supposed to draw from 1980 was "Don't mount a primary challenge to a Democratic incumbent."
The lesson Democrats were supposed to draw from 1984 was "Don't run a liberal" (even though Mondale was a centrist)
The lesson Democrats were supposed to draw from 1988 was "Don't run a liberal."
See a pattern?
As far as your grandkids, psst: http://www.democraticunderground.com/12778005
