When the event was announced, many people said that he was unlikely to win over many people at the school.
But that was never the point.
He was giving us a preview of how he would approach leadership as President of the United States. It was a moment where presented himself as reasonable and open to molding consensus, but he was firm in both his principles and his framing.
The intended audience wasn't Liberty University. It was us.

(17,796 posts)but there's now a larger group of republican voters who won't freak out at the idea of a Democratic President, and isn't that worth a couple of hours?

(12,157 posts)I think that he has laid out the truth to the staff and students. I am sure their consciences are piqued. It will be up to them whether they continue down the path of uber-Calvanism or will recognize the teachings of Christ- a Jew- laid out for them by a Jew.
There was a thread started by kpete linking to a Liberty U. alumnus who equated the Jew Sen. Sanders with a 1st century Jew, John the Baptist. It is worth a look and listen as the transcript is only partial.

(38,187 posts)would pay for, if they come from a religious household. There may be more who agree with Bernie Sanders there than let on. In any case, I'm glad he stands by his principles. I hope he can stay on the ballot when the NC primaries roll around. If so, I will be proud to get to vote for him.
