Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumI just trash canned my first group ever.
I ran across a video of West addressing the criticisms of his remarks about Obama and thought some in the AA forum might want to hear what he had to say in his own defense or by way of explanation. I was attacked and blocked from the group. Called a liar etc. So, WOW...I didn't know how badly that would go.
I can't link to my post because I just trashed the group so I don't ever go there by mistake.
Damn...

(26,001 posts)On edit...I was called a liar because when I posted it (you can see it) I said I didn't intend any disrespect and hoped it might be something to discuss.
I was told I was a liar and a disruptor, basically.

It's incredible. It's like they're casting about for straws.

Even so, it seems very counter productive behavior....from a white Volvo driving perspective anyway.
Is it hippy punching 3.0?
artislife
(9,497 posts)Cornell West is a very polarizing figure to many people, especially the AA population.
Barack Obama is the first Black President and that is a hell of an achievement. There is so much love, disbelief, joy, pride, and pinch myself I must be dreaming, I cannot believe in my lifetime--emotions going on in the AA community, and most PoC communities.
President Obama has faced the most vile, least patriotic and racist congress in our collective memory. This is a president that most of the AA community feels should have a solid backing by his own. Even if there are things that are not exactly what each member wants, the community as a whole is better when they stand together.
West did not do that.
The small handful of AAs that make up the group are not on board with West criticizing President Obama. If you were to have read their threads, you probably would have picked it up from their words.
When I go into groups that I am not a member of whether it is candidate or race or sexuality, I read first. For a good many weeks. I post rarely and in most, never at all.
I feel the groups are a haven, and that the GDP is where everyone agrees to duke it out.
This is my explanation.
haikugal

(9,497 posts)about being a minority in this nation. The Latino group on this site is as if La Migra came through and chased everyone off...( I am Latina mix, for those who don't know), so reading about their struggles was interesting and enlightening for me. I cannot say that my experience in this country is anything like what most of them go through on a daily basis.
But I can say, my Latino looking brother was stopped in Texas and spent a week in jail without being charged so I am not completely removed from it either.
To me, it has become a place to martyr the banned, raise up some members and complain about Sanders supporters. So much meta, which is what we are doing right now...but look at the threads in our group. We have so much more variety than that group has. Too bad, there are a lot of issues that we really need to address and the AA group says it is for discussing them.
But that won't happen again until after the primaries, if then.
I actually think that it will never happen here again in the foreseeable future.
haikugal

(23,664 posts)I think it was that subversive icon you have in your sig line.
I'm not kidding either. I posted something over there that I thought was pretty innocuous and stirred up a mountain of shit in the process. There were a couple of snide references to Senator Sanders (in response to my post which never mentioned him) so I can only assume they objected to my "fringe candidate" sig line graphic.
I don't think they blocked me but I sure wasn't made to feel welcome. Or maybe they didn't block me because all the hosts already had me on ignore.
Anyway, there wasn't a damn thing wrong with your post. The paranoia is strong in that group.
