Sanders schedules stop at Liberty University

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) plans on addressing students at the evangelical Liberty University next month.

The 2016 Democratic presidential candidate plans to visit the Lynchburg, Va. campus on Sept. 14 for the school’s fall convocation, according to Liberty’s website.

Its website touts the event — held three a times a week at its Vines Center — as “North America’s largest weekly gathering of Christian students.” The Lynchburg News & Advance said the events frequently draw more than 12,000 people.
The speeches are also mandatory for residential, undergraduate students at Liberty.

into the lion's den.

If he could turn that crowd around, it would qualify as a 'miracle'.

Many of the students have been home schooled by religious parents.

They have been sheltered from the truth since birth.

It will be interesting to hear the results of his appearance.

I wonder how many will refuse to attend and just pay the fine ???

Young evangelicals, while still very religious, still are trending more and more socially liberal these days. Gay marriage just doesn't bother them in the way it bothers their parents and their grand parents. So they may be more receptive to what he has to say about economic and social justice despite our own prejudices otherwise.

If Sanders is going to beat the money and smear campaigns of the Clinton machine, he will have to get creative. That means getting more independents and even Republicans to vote in the primary for him over Clinton. It will also help him in the general when he must face the Citizens United financial juggernaut which will likely be Jeb Bush.

8. They have already seen his events, so they know the message.

When he does the event in person it shows how authentic he is and how rational his ideas are compared to the GOP circus.
IMO

9. I don't think they would recognize rational thought if it hit them in the face.

Maybe Chris Christie should speak to them.
