Making a PNW grand slam weekend--Bernie will be in Portland on August 9th

http://www.oregonlive.com/mapes/index.ssf/2015/07/bernie_sanders_plans_large_aug.html

Veterans Memorial Coliseum
300 North Winning Way, Portland, Oregon 97227

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who has been attracting large crowds to his presidential campaign appearances around the country, has scheduled a Sunday, Aug. 9 rally at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland.

The Sanders rally at Memorial Coliseum -- which has a capacity of more than 12,000 -- is set to begin at 7 p.m., with the doors opening at 6 p.m., according to an announcement posted Friday on the Sanders campaign website.

There is no charge listed for the event, which says he will discuss issues ranging from climate change to dealing "with obscene wealth and income inequality."

Sanders, an Independent who aligns with the Democratic Party in the Senate and identifies himself as a socialist, has been attracting the largest crowds of the new presidential campaign season. In early July, about 7,500 showed up for an event in Portland, Maine, according to a Time Magazine account of his large crowds.

The senator will appear in Portland just four days after Hillary Clinton, the frontrunner in the Democratic presidential race, is set to hold a $2,700-per-person fundraiser at a home in the exclusive Dunthorpe neighborhood on the Portland border.

Same old, same old - Hillary hangin' with her peeps, the very rich, the one percent. And as F. Scott Fitzgerald accurately observed: "Let me tell you about the very rich. They are different from you and me. They possess and enjoy early, and it does something to them. Unless you were born rich, it is very difficult to understand. They think, deep in their hearts, that they are better than we are because we had to discover the compensations and refuges of life for ourselves. Even when they enter deep into our world or sink below us, they still think that they are better than we are. They are different." Now granted HRC & Bill weren't born very rich, but have we ever seen any political pair pursue the life style of the rich and famous with more dedication and determination than the Clintons?

Meet HRC's host: Win McCormack
McCormack is the author of: You Don't Know Me: A Citizen's Guide to Republican Family Values. Therein he documented, among other shortcomings, 22 examples of adultery by Republican politicians and activists. He described these acts as "overwhelming deviance from professed moral standards". Ironic that Win trashes Republican sex offenders, when McCormack served as Chair of the Oregon Steering Committee for Gary Hart's 1984 presidential campaign.

I googled to see if Bill Clinton had reviewed or recommended this book, but apparently he hasn't. Hope Win has the good taste to put his extra copies of the book out of sight before HRC arrives.

And if anyone should have good taste and good manners it should be Win, who was born to great wealth and prepped at Phillips Academy Andover and got his BA at Harvard. Are y'all familiar w/ Phillips Exeter? Founded during the American Revolutionary War. Perhaps you've seen references to it:
The school is often mentioned in books and movies and television shows such as the following:

In Chapter 17 of The Catcher in the Rye, Sally Hayes introduces Holden to a boy who attended Andover.[50] "You'd have thought they'd taken baths in the same bathtub or something when they were little kids. Old buddyroos. It was nauseating. The funny part was, they probably met each other just once, at some phony party. Finally, when they were all done slobbering around, old Sally introduced us. His name was George something—I don't even remember—and he went to Andover. Big, big deal."
In the John Guare play Six Degrees of Separation, one of the characters laments that his parents could not afford to send him to Andover or Exeter.[51]
F. Scott Fitzgerald's This Side of Paradise has several characters who attended Andover.[52]
In Scent of a Woman, Charles Simms tries to start an argument with the irascible Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade by saying that "... I believe President Bush went to Andover."[53]
In A Beautiful Mind, John Nash's imaginary Princeton roommate characterizes him as a "poor kid that never got to go to Exeter or Andover".[54]

An Amazon review: McCormack as hypocrite
ByKip Dellinger "Kip"on August 25, 2008
Format: Paperback
As the publisher's review says, McCormack's complaint taken realistically seems to be of a problem endemic to American society rather than Republicans or their politicians. In fact, it's almost laughable when one thinks about FDR, JFK, Bill Clinton, John Edwards, Gary Hart and on and on.

But, readers, do not fear for Win McCormack. He is an heir (a principal one) to the McCormack family wealth - the McCormack brothers that founded Illinois Tool Co. (used to be Illinois Tool & Die Works) and Northern Trust (one of America's oldest and most pretigious "big" banks).

Like too many trust fund babys born with the silver spoon (in this case Platinum) in their mouths, and taken care of for their entire lives by trust distributions, McCormack believes that he is entitled to tell the rest of the world how to live. A bit of digging around into who he is and what he came from, will reveal enough hypocrisy on his part to discredit his Republicans as the country's only bad guys.

Years ago I liked her...I guess. But either things changed or I just never really knew The Hill.

I now won't even hold my nose and do the March of the Zombies to vote for her. Nope.

I'm on the non-rich side of the river.

Last weekend there was a huge party there or very near. Huge bonfire, extremely noisy, went on until about 11 p.m. Unusual for the quiet neighborhood.

I'll get my binoculars out and see if I can see the very house from here.

I wonder if there will be any protesters in the river. Wi

From the accounts I heard, the local old-style Dem pols & One Percenters practically were tugging their forelocks, they were so deferential. Admission was minimum $1,000 a head, but if they ponied up $2,700 they could stand right next to her (very briefly/like 10 seconds) for ONE photo.

Well, there is a better way...and there is a better candidate...and it's not all about selling your soul to Billionaires and Banksters, status quo or being roped off.

The better way is Bernie.

As a start, here is info about the Coliseum...

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portland_Memorial_Coliseum

Then, you can see the Tri-Met/MAX light rail routes and schedules here...

http://trimet.org

You could do some searches for hotels/motels nearest the coliseum address...but you can really stay any place near any of the light rail lines...the Red and Blue trains pass by the coliseum, extending out as far west as Hillsboro and east to the airport and Gresham (anyone can correct me on bad info as I've lived in CA for years but have had to do a lot of travel up to Beaverton.)

Oh! Here's a page that may get you started...a mix of non-cheap and then what should be more affordable...
