What Is Bernie's Position On Student Loan/Debt Forgiveness?.....

This is an issue that I've become passionate about. Think of what an impact it would have on the economy if that money that is tied up for payments on these loans and interest could be used to buy houses, cars, appliances, computers, etc. Think about the sales tax & property tax money generated. Think about how the demand for houses, appliances, furnishings would put people to work and they in turn would have money to buy again. Talk about fueling the economy.

I would like to hear where Bernie stands on this issue. I would also encourage you to talk about this at your Bernie meetings tonight.

should be allowed to refinance at lower rates.

He thinks it is unfair that you can refinance you house

at a lower rate, but you can be stuck with a 9% interest

rate on your student loans.

He also thinks it is wrong that the government is making

money off the interest of student loans.

a break on the interest rate would be enough to help us out. There is all sorts of help for corporations (so much so that the top companies like GE are paying very little if anything). Time to help someone other than multi-national corporations. With lower rates the professional classes would pay back those loans faster and have more money to put towards homes, college for their kids, etc. Enough with the greedy banks who have executives making multi-million dollar bonuses while the rest of scramble to pay back what we owe. I agree with total forgiveness at low incomes (especially if working in non-profits, county offices, etc - helping people at large).

It's mostly the youth that is saddled with these loans/debt. They are trying to start their careers and lives. Start a family. Buy a home. Furnish a home. Yet they are beholden to put a portion of their salary (if they find a job) to pay back these loans. The interest keeps building up and they never get out from under these loans.

Are their any candidates that are backing student loan forgiveness? I'm just saying that if a candidate were to back student loan forgiveness they would garner a lot of support and votes because there is an awful lot of people that are struggling with this problem. Their parents would support that candidate too.

We seem to have money for wars or for wealthy benefactors footing the bill for the Clown car - but we never have the money to take care of our own and get this economy really going.

I hope Bernie thinks about this more and perhaps starts making overtures for loan forgiveness.

Again - I would urge everyone at the Bernie gatherings tonight to discuss this issue.
