Transcribed a few words from the rally in Louisiana

A great video of the whole rally is embedded in this post:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/1251476180

I took the time to transcribe a couple pieces of Bernie's speech starting around 1:25:30, which I think bears repeating, especially considering the way the atmosphere gets around here sometimes:

". . . As I said earlier, this campaign is not about me. This campaign is about you and three hundred million other Americans. And what I've also said, time and time again, no president can do it alone. We need a grass roots political movement of which I hope you will become part of. Do not let our opponents divide us up by race, do not let them divide us up by sexual orientation, do not let them divide us up by gender or by the country of our origin! . . . When we come together as a nation, when we are prepared to stand up to the greed of wall street and corporate America, when we are prepared to tell them that this great country belongs to every man woman and child and not just to a handful of billionaires, when we have the courage to do that, there is nothing we cannot accomplish! Let's do it, thank you very much!"

respond to the obvious attempt to divide people, the more it will work.

There is so much that is good to talk about it's best to let those who want to use negative tactics do it among themselves.

Bernie is only benefiting from these tactics they are not stopping him at all and only make it more obvious how desperately the status quo wants stop anyone who is a threat to the life they have grown accustomed to.

What I mean is, Bernie is preaching the same message, but he's got the means down: he can't do it without US marching alongside him. Many have criticized PBO's first years in office by saying that he didn't emphasize that we - the movement - had to stay with him into his presidency. That he let his organization wither after being elected.

I think Bernie is bringing this home.

3. Yes, I think that was a big error on Obama's part.

There was a very strong movement of people from all walks of life, pounding on doors and getting out the votes. But after the election I think we all felt pretty much abandoned. Perhaps he felt he had to move to the center in order to govern effectively, but I think he was wrong. Without the power of that movement, he had a hard time negotiating and getting his programs through. IMHO.

Perhaps it is up to us to keep it going this time, and not just rely on the fortunes of one leader or another?

10. He listened to Rahm on that...and Rahm wanted to make sure Obama WASN'T transformational.

Moral of story: Never listen to Rahm, or anybody with Rahm's take on politics, economics and society, ever again.

I am still getting thrilled by it. Maybe a miracle - the one that should have happened in 2009 - will FINALLY happen.

If someone doesn't feel Bernie would be good on race issues, fine, he should work harder to listen and respond.

But a lot of the 'questions' being raised, particularly in the media, may be motivated more by a desire to keep any coherent progressive movement from forming, than from any honest concern about the racist structures existing in this country.

We all can see the media loves to try to get a fight going. I think that constant fighting serves very well to keep the power structure just as it is. The scary thing for the oligarchs is if we stop fighting.

13. If there had ever been any concern about the AA community in this country
Mon Jul 27, 2015, 01:47 AM

it sure hasn't manifested itself considering how things are only getting worse. What country, what GOVERNMENT in any civilized nation would tolerate the outright, blatant murders of so many of its citizens, mostly minorities, and of course POOR by those who are supposed to uphold the law?

It is an emergency situation, the poverty, the danger from law enforcement, it is so critical that the Government MUST intervene to stop it. No one else is going to do that.

But that hasn't happened, why? Dems, Repubs, it doesn't seem to matter.

Bernie is the ONLY candidate who has consistently stood up for AAs, he did when no one else would when Jesse Jackson had a chance to win in 1988 and he has not stopped demanding Economic Justice for minorities, but didn't get much help from too many in our own party.

Hillary's record on this is terrible. She supported legislation that has made life WORSE for AAs, the awful Welfare Bill and the tough on crime legislation which helped the Private Prison industry but also helped incarcerate AAs at incredible rates, most of it for minor crimes.

Bernie has been demanding that this be stopped for decades. That education and jobs replace our shameful incarceration rates. While Hillary has supported it.

Bernie doesn't need to change much about his message, but other Dems need to, to need to GET a message and then do something about when it comes to AAs.
