Wow, Bernie in the Appalachians!

When I clicked online to Bernie's kick-off site and looked at the rallies planned in these venerable old mountains, my jaw literally dropped and a gasp of air joined my exploding smile.
"My god, this area is deep red." There exist no Democratic representation in DC from any of these isolated areas where the streams flow swift and most livings are made by toiling on the land.

A long standing joke about Avery County, NC is that they have two Republican parties competing in county elections. I recall an editor telling me years ago to keep my mouth shut at county commission meetings, "they all carry guns," she said.

It's been difficult for me to buy into and agree with the pundits suggesting that Sen. Sander's appeal comes mostly from an elite demographic.

9:21 AM PT: It's reported that some of the July 29, Kick-0ff events are already full.
Keep on trucking folks.

9:26 AM PT: FYI: "Bernie Sanders has gone on the record and said that July 29th is the single most important date for his campaign. At 7 pm EST, volunteers and activists all around the country will gather in apartments, houses, restaurants, bars, schools, and town halls to discuss how they can best help Bernie Sanders.

This is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people in your area, promote our subreddit, and brainstorm ways to locally contribute to the Grassroots Revolution.

lifetime campaign. I'm stoked!

Next stop... the Southland!

I took a look the other day at the map that showed where all the people were organizing, and my state of Florida was plum full of scheduled events. From one end of the state to the other.

I can't wait to see how successful this day will be for Bernie.

While telling ourselves how great our country is... we lose sight of what it takes to make it better.

11:13 AM PT: more news that the events are filling up: Most in Pasadena, Calif. were full (1+ / 0-)

I ended up going with choice #4, which was fine but obviously new, because it only had one person.

We've got 6 days to help this go even better. Wish we could call into the red states, all phone-bankish!

"I would not be where I now am, I would not have some of the responsibilities which I now bear, if it had not been for the people of West Virginia." President John F. Kennedy, June 20, 1963.

In 1960 WV was a citadel of labor even with its areas of rural poverty. That year JFK overcame opponent Hubert Humphrey's 20 point lead in the Mountaineer State through an all-out campaign effort. The people of WV handed JFK a stunning victory that he credited with securing the 1960 Democratic nomination for President.

FDR was also a much beloved President in the state like labor leader John L. Lewis of the UMW.
