REP. BARBARA LEE: BERNIE SANDERS' MESSAGE "RESONATING", "GALVANIZING PROGRESSIVES":
"And I think by the turnout and by the response of the people around the country, we see that this message is resonating so I think it's a good thing he's out there".
- California Rep. Barbara Lee, a key leader of progressive House Democrats says she believes Bernie's candidacy is galvanizing progressives and the progressive agenda. "I know Bernie first as a colleague and as a friend, I did serve with him on the then- Banking Committee and wound up with, initially, the National Housing Trust Fund, worked together on that, and so I've worked with him on many, many issues and he's a friend Lee said on 'The Jeff Santos Show" (radio).
"And I think what he is doing really is galvanizing progressives to really develop a strong progressive agenda that deals with all of the issues, that the majority of Americans want to deal with", she added. "And I think by the turnout and by response of the people around the country, we see that his message is resonating and so I think it's a good thing that he's out there," she added.
Last week Sanders supporters filled the 10,000 seat Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Madison, Wisconsin. "I'm supporting the progressive agenda, Mayor DeBlasio, myself and 8 to 10 members of Congress signed on to a progressive agenda that we are putting forward, that addresses many of the issues that Sec. Clinton and Sen. Sanders are raising." "And so income inequality, when you look at a living wage, when you look at climate change, there are many, many issues on the progressive agenda that Sec. Clinton and Sen. Sanders are addressing and I think it's a very exciting time that he's doing this".

How I wished we had more real Dems like her and Bernie at that time.
She will most likely support whoever wins this nomination, so let's make it the one that in her heart she surely knows would be best for this country.
VP for Bernie, imagine if that were possible!

(41,171 posts)Democratic Congresswoman Barbara Lee of California
Hon. Barbara Lee, (D-CA) US Representative for California's 13th District is a forceful and progressive voice in Congress dedicated to social and economic justice, international peace and civil and human rights.
First elected in 1998, the Democratic lawmaker has established a reputation for principled and independent stands, unafraid to take on the tough issues and speak her mind for her constituents, for a more just America, and for a safer world.
As a social worker by profession, being an advocate for people dealing with the federal bureaucracy has been a priority. She has aggressively advocated the needs of the underserved and vulnerable people in her district and throughout the US vigorously advocating for a wide range of social and economic concerns.
The Congresswoman has been a strong proponent of safe communities, affordable housing, low income energy assistance, job training, making healthcare affordable and universal, just immigration policies, the establishment of a living wage, and protection of the rights of women to make decisions about their reproductive health.
In 2013 Congresswoman Lee became Chair of the newly formed Whip Task Force on Poverty and Opportunity. The mission of the Task Force is to raise the awareness of Members of Congress and the American people about the ongoing crisis of poverty, the positive human and economic impacts of reducing and eliminating poverty, as well as the need for a comprehensive national effort to eradicate poverty and remove barriers to opportunity that prevent low-income Americans from reaching the middle class.
~ Congresswoman Barbara Lee is active in combatting Hunger in America and joins in the Food Justice effort.

(11,104 posts)Ms. Lee is a person of color and I read it right here on DU....Bernie is a white guy from a white state with white ideas who can`t relate to persons of color. He probably even drives a white car, wears white socks and eats white bread. He`s so very white. How can Bernie`s message be "resonating" with a black progressive? Something is very fishy here.
